Referencing the 1980s to your friends tends to elicit the full gamut of strong reactions. If you lived it, you may conjure up rattling memories of bad perms, yuppies and an excess of palm tree iconography. However, the '80s style was also a refreshing burst of color and light after the sleazification of disco and the Jacuzzi. It was a time when girl power gained traction in pop culture and its feminine flourishes influenced fashion and music in ways that inspired even men to pick pink. Now that the fall runway collections have tapped into the playful '80s aesthetic, Etsy sellers have been offering new takes on neon, shoulder pads and leggings (to name a few). I'm personally hot a huge fan of the 80's look, but I was born in 84 so I guess whatever years you spend your teenage ones in are the most influential for your fashion choices. But I WILL say that I LOVE those neon colors!!!

Somehow I missed those ribbon barrettes - man if you were a prep you definitely had those! Luckily my sister made them!! Had 'em in every color possible! LOL

I wanted a spiral perm so badly in the 80s (I was a teenager). The ladies at the salon used about 100 rollers and 3 bottles of perm solution on my long, stick-straight hair. The perm didn't take and I had sores on my scalp for a year after!

Love the 80's stuff! Give me preppy vintage Lacoste, kelly green, rubik's cubes, friendship bracelets, mix tapes, full skirted minis that flare up when you twirl, and leg warmers. However, I'm not a fan of the giant shoulder pads...

The 80's were a lot of fun! Everyone was experimenting with style, nobody was afraid to look stupid. I was into punk and of course I didn't experience bad perms, I never listened to anything produced by Stock, Aitken and Waterman and I totally dissaproved of shoulder pads. The latter I'm going to catch up in this revival. I'm currently experimenting with all kinds of shapes and it's a pity my dummy has only two shoulders.

Naw, not quite ready for 80s redux. Those bad perms, neon colors and Herculean shoulder pads were a bit much. Yuppie culture was the start of lots of not-so-good things that we're all effected by now. I was making art quilts early on and pretty much ignored much the more annoying trends. Still had fun!

Oh, how I love the 80s. My high school years (early 80s). Great selections.
Remember the Members Only jackets. I started a major trend in my small hometown by wearing it as a shirt with the sleeves pushed up. And with the zipper way too low. :)

My Bitchen collection would be the perfect fit!
Like, Oh My God! This collection is so 80's, but with a chic update that's oh-so-now. There were tons of eye shadow colors in heavy use throughout the 80s, but the color most associated with the decade is the electric blue. The eyeliner, in particular, was worn in abundance and on the inside. Nothing says 80's valley girl like tons of totally tubular blue or teal eyeliner rimming the inside of your eyes. It's rad, like for sure.
