Goldfish may not be as cute or cuddly as kittens and puppies, but they deserve loving, too! During my childhood, I was the proud pet owner of a parade of about 257 goldfish. My brother named every single one of his goldfish either Bert or Ernie. Burying our deceased fishies in the compost pile became an elaborate ritual, as did the subsequent trips back to Jones Pet Shop in Nashville for a replacement Bert or Ernie. When I was six years old, I clearly remember clutching my fishbowl containing my beloved fish, Annabelle, during the first grade pet show. My spot was right next to all the cats and I had lovingly covered the opening to the bowl with a piece of tinfoil as a barrier, just in case any of the cats got hungry.
