Today our most famous weather forecasting groundhog will emerge from hibernation and predict the future of the Northern Hemisphere's winter. Will the silhouette of his shadow scare him back down into his burrow, forecasting another six weeks of shivering cold winter, or will a cloudy sky save our little friend from the fear of his shadow and have us celebrating the joyous arrival of spring? Watch and find out!

Love the shadow puppets. We have groundhogs (whole family) in our yard, we see them in all the time in the warmer weather. Don't think they'll be out today - too much snow!!

I love groundhog day! In a neighborhood where I used to live, there resided a huge (I mean huge!) groundhog that appeared every couple of months, perched on a pillar or in someone's garden. I named him Pete.

Groundhog day is great! Growing up in VT, there was a road called "Pudding Hill" that got it's name due to the muddy conditions of the road in the spring- Groundhog "Pudding Hill Pete" lives there and he's in the paper every year with his own predictions like Phil in PA is. Fun little tradition. Great picks of shadows! I love them all!!

Even as a kid, the usefulness of Groundhog's day always perplexed me. Oh well, at least we get to celebrate cute furry woodland critters. And by the way--they're not as nice as they look! I was out jogging once and ran across one by the side of the road. It growled at me! I thought for sure it would attack, lol.

My daughter is so disappointed because she predicted that he would not see his shadow. I don't have the heart to tell her Spring doesn't begin until March 21st no matter what!

PS: we have families of groundhogs who live in our yard -- last year the baby got into the habit of pranking us by knocking on our side door, and one time we opened it and caught him red-handed and he SCREAMED. no lies here kids, groundhogs scream. And play pranks. Happy Day everyone!

I have a small collection of Etsy groundhogs, because today is my daughters birthday!

BlueTerracotta, we live in central NY, and had a mama and her babies living in our yard last year before we bought this house. They live in little colonies, 14 or so at a time in a series of connected holes. I don't know where else, but I know they live here.
