Thanks for putting the 'O' in Ohio, Ohio! And thanks for adding my painting! Go, America.

Nov. 12, 2008 at 1:16 p.m. RegalBeads

Putting these items on the FP and putting this here is just plain bad business no matter how you look at it.
Everyone knows that you don't mix politics with business and that for good reason. Just because a subject is popular does not make that subject fodder for 1-an international site 2-a site that caters to people from all sides of politics. It's not worth loosing customers over an issue like this. YOU choosing to put this on our FP and in here could be loosing US customers. It's just bad all around.

Nov. 12, 2008 at 1:39 p.m. abbydid

No, I disagree with RegalBeads completely. I think having pride in our new leader and depicting him and his symbols in new, creative ways shows enormous pride in our nation, as well as its philosophies. I believe it's called freedom of speech. We are no longer picking sides here, we are now unifying to support a world leader. The fact that cottage industries like ours feel the desire to express themselves creatively on his behalf should be showcased wholeheartedly.

Nov. 12, 2008 at 2:33 p.m. anda

Talk about Obama mania! "Obama" is a top search term bringing a record-breaking number of new buyers to Etsy this week, and seemed like a timely topic for a patriotic Find. I'm glad you guys like it!

Nov. 12, 2008 at 2:52 p.m. windyscreations

Nov. 12, 2008 at 3:34 p.m. TheMysticCircleArt

Great article!!!!-I love all the creative Obama items.
As for the comment about putting this on the front page(RegalBeads),I totally agree with abbydid -Freedom of speech(It's a wonderful thing) and showing support for are soon to be President are what we should/are doing!

Nov. 12, 2008 at 3:39 p.m. elisasherejewelry

Great stuff! I'm so inspired by these incredibly creative goodies. I really want that tote!

Nov. 12, 2008 at 4:16 p.m. Charsbeads4U

I certainly hope so! =)

Nov. 12, 2008 at 5:07 p.m. JesseMosher

nice .... It's great that there are so many supporters .

Love the SOAP -love all the items !

Here in this shop we have limited edition "Deadheads for Obama" items to commemorate the reunion of the remaining GD that Obama brought together for a show here in SF 4 Feb -the original painting already sold off etsy -but prints and posters still here

If anyone is looking for specific and specialized commemorative items from that show take a look ...

AGAIN -love all the items !

Nov. 12, 2008 at 5:51 p.m. faro

I also completely disagree with RegalBeads.

This is not political anymore, it's historic and a fact that Obama is our president elect. It's not bad business to honor him and take notice of this incredible moment in American history.

It's time to be purple, not red or blue.

Nov. 12, 2008 at 5:55 p.m. faro

...and to add, it's not just Americans that are excited and supporting our new president, the whole world is involved in this celebration of change!

Right here on etsy, election night was alive with cheers and tears, from ALL over the world.

I for one find it incredibly refreshing to see etsy support the energy behind this moment in time.

Nov. 12, 2008 at 7:48 p.m. CarryMeAway

I have to disagree with Regal Beads, as one of the shops featured in this Storque article, I have to say business was the last think I was thinking when I made this bag.
As an artist I get my inspiration from things that made me happy and bring light to my soul, like flower, a cute bird or in this case the change in path that America has taken NOT only on politics but also on race relations,
My tote "Change has come to America" reflects not only the change in policy but the change in spirit, a spirit that is full of positivism and hope.

Nov. 12, 2008 at 8 p.m. BluCille

Wow. I wonder how long the media and public will wait before they begin the never-ending bashing of the new president elect just as with George W. Bush and previous presidents. It's strange just how short-lived this loyalty and "hope" truly is.

Nov. 12, 2008 at 8:55 p.m. edithandlulu

I also disagree with RegalBeads. This is an exciting time in history.

Nov. 12, 2008 at 10:13 p.m. RegalBeads

Freedom of speech does not mean what you think it means. sad.

Nov. 13, 2008 at 1:58 a.m. CarryMeAway

Why the negativity Regal! This is time to be happy even if you don't agree with obama's policies, the fact that America embraced a black president is amazing!

Nov. 13, 2008 at 2:48 a.m. theltaylor

It's all right Regal. I know how you feel -- the same way I felt four years ago.

Nov. 13, 2008 at 8:56 a.m. RocketScienceShop

How cool that Obama is the #1 search! Thanks, Etsy, for highlighting these wonderful artists.

Regal, I don't think that anyone would like to take away your free speach! You expressed your opinion, and people have the right to disagree with you. I appreciate your opinion.

Nov. 13, 2008 at 10:08 a.m. dearbirthday

1. yay! awesome items, lovely collection
2. when i was considering whether sharing my political views might be "bad for business" my boyfriend (and collaborator) reminded me that one of the greatest joys in running your own business is the ability to do it *your* way and to give your whole self, politics and all to it.

regal, if there are people who would turn away from etsy or particular etsy sellers based on this celebration of change, there are just as many (no wait, MORE) who will celebrate with us. feel free to speak your mind, but please don't try to scare others away from doing the same.

Nov. 13, 2008 at 10:39 a.m. mindseyecards

I hadn't planned on creating any post election Obama merchadise but I was so moved on election night that I designed 4 Obama buttons at 11pm! I want to thank all the people who bought some buttons (and now magnets) and helped celebrate this historical moment!

I am PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!

Nov. 13, 2008 at 11:14 a.m. audreymichel

Check out my photo "Burritos for Obama"!

Nov. 14, 2008 at 12:14 a.m. WingsDove

After reading all of the above posts, I have to say that putting the President Elect on the front page of Etsy is GOOD business. Obama has fans across the United States and even around the world, which is very unusual. The rest of the world usually does not like our politicians, so Obama's great Global popularity is something new and very different.

Let's give the new guy a chance!!

Nov. 15, 2008 at 8:44 a.m. annabellaknits

These are awsome!! Go ETSY, Yeah we did it!!!

Nov. 16, 2008 at 2 a.m. RegalBeads

wjw
If saying mixing politics with business is bad business (old, tried and true) wjw
practice what you preach honey

Nov. 16, 2008 at 2:01 a.m. RegalBeads

re free speech, never said anyone took it away. I said most americans don't understand what it is, and it's not the right to say what you want where you want on private sites.

Nov. 17, 2008 at 11:55 a.m. ArmandoJavierDesign

Finally got around 2 posting my Obama Wins bag.
