Editing has always been inherent to my meaning; as a journaler, I tend to erase before I reach the end of the clause. In art and nature, negative space suggests a graceful inverse of our experience, a non-design for every design. The technique of laser cutting creates an absence of material that evokes intricacy in both texture and light. These Etsy Finds experiment in the tangible: paper, felt, metal, wood, vinyl, leather, and plastic, but also in that alluringly elusive medium of space.

Love Poppy mat, public shop. I wonder if they will have a christmas tree for the holidays... or a turkey.
Great selection, I love negative space.

these picks bring to mind the very intricate art of paper cutting. there are some amazing artists of this genre out there (some here on etsy)...
Check out the mindblowing work of Aoyama Hina, a Japanese artist out of France, among others (can be found at toxel.com, march 22 2009).
Fantastic finds!
MilkGlassVintage
Aaaahhhh! I love every single thing in the post.... I'm a paper-holic with a woodgrain fetish, and anything with silhouettes, scherenschnitte or any other papercraft makes me weak in the knees. **swooning in Vermont**

So amazing, I am fascinated by all of them! Have you seen the tiny Scottish tenements? My personal favorites http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?...

I just squealed like a schoolgirl and clapped my hands! Awesome!
JoyandWhimsy
Interesting piece. This Native American Cowboy vintage book is composed of artwork by Perceval that looks laser cut throughout, but I guess they didn't have lasers back then so don't know how he did it...

yeah!
the post and the items talking about the space, the laser cutting and designing about the "nowhere" is great!
L ve it a L t!!!
MarchiMadeIt
do all these people do the laser work them self? or can we send our work out and have someone else do the laser cut with our design, and still sell it on etsy?
uniqueeuphoria
Love it!
Here is another site all about space:

what elaborate and delicate items - i had to at least add 4 or 5 to my favorites.
SaltyandSweet
Lasers.... Pyew! Pyew! Pyew!
RE: MarchiMadelt: I draw each and every figure and work the laser cutter myself when I have access to it. Most of the time, I work with someone who cuts my figures, which I then assemble.
In my opinion, this shouldn't be any different from a knitter buying yarn at a shop... surely not all knitters shear sheep and spin their own yarn, right?
Crafterall
Awesome collection! Wonderful finds! So many of my own faves here, and new lovelies as well. :D
PixelWildChild

amybsjewelry
What an amazing collection! I love laser cutting...I used to cut everything by hand with a jeweler's saw!
WrapMeInCouture
Good one! Another idea is burn out velvet where the cut away space creates the texture and pattern in the fabric of the scarf.

A neat round up. I'm more pleased that I got those mats from Publiqueshop for my mother-in-law's birthday. Cannot wait to see them on the table come the holidays.
Anyone else have them?
StudioCherie
I am really drawn to these too. Thank you so much for the great examples.

Great theme! I make black and white prints and paintings, inspired by experiences of being in nature. It is very much about space too. I just joined Etsy yesterday so do come and have a look... http://carolineunderwood.etsy.com/

Absolutely divine, this dance of space and medium, like gorgeous odes to the immaterial realm of ideas. Beautifull realized, artistic enchantments, and I'm all sorts of bewitched. Excellent work all around!
klacustomcreations
very cool finds, I am always amazed by the many cool things available on etsy!
breadandroses2
Wondrous selection! JoyandWhimsy, thx for heads up on Don Perceval's work. It's a ringer for the style of some fabulous early 80s vintage silhouette fabric I just found. VeraVague, the art of intricate paper cutting is called Scherenschnitte (shear-n-SNIT- a), German for 'scissor cutting'. You'll find gorgeous examples of early 19th Pennsylvania German folk art in museums, books, etc. Found one years ago & treasure it. Julene's Beez Neez is most reminiscent of the antique examples but with a fun, modern twist. Love it all.
whitemetal
This is the best selection of storque picks I've seen so far. Beautiful! I love so many of them :)
