Etsy Finds Vintage: Equestrienne

Did you go through a horse phase when you were, oh, eight to 12 years old? You know what I mean: were you one of those girls who had a stable-full of horse figurines, horse posters covering her bedroom walls, and whose greatest wish was to have a pony of her very own? If so, here are some vintage  Etsy Finds to trigger your nostalgia. And if not, they may trigger a latent horse phase in you yet. Giddy-up!

I have a vivid memory of being about 8 and being in my room with my horse models. My brother had the Rolling Stones "Wild Horses" playing on the record player downstairs and I was just making my horse models gallop around *in slow motion* and I just remember thinking they were soooo beautiful. (obsessed)

My mom owned a tack shop when I was young and I recognize several of the vintage items...so neat to see them again. My horse craze started when I was 5 and is still going on. Just got in from taking care of mine.

Awesome collection, HeyMichelle! I DEFINITELY went through a horse phase (my shelves were lined with plastic horses!), and I think I'm still kind of in it ;-) These items are fabulous.

Dec. 20, 2008 at 3:54 p.m. vintageitville

Oh the applique skirt is just too cute.
I was so sad when we moved and my Dad through out my horse picture I had colored(not knowing its importance). I would just stare at it and dream of having my own horse.

Drawing horses is actually what got me thinking that I'd like to be an artist someday...I have horses to thank for dipping my feet into the creative world.

Dec. 20, 2008 at 6:02 p.m. AwApplesauce

These are all great! I can just imagine someone getting that visible horse illustration for an 8-year-old horse-obsessed little girl! Haha!

Dec. 20, 2008 at 6:23 p.m. JoyandWhimsy

Thanks Michelle..A lot of people don't know about the horse of Alexander the Great and I was so surprised to find a picture book about this ancient horse at:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?...

Dec. 21, 2008 at 12:56 a.m. Moonegirl

I love horses too! I recently made up a bunch of horse/western tags for my shop because it reminded me of being a young girl, free on a horse in the woods!!

Dec. 21, 2008 at 1:06 a.m. lulabel

these are beautiful! with a room FULL of ribbons and horse photos, you could say my horse phase lasted a little longer than normal...about 17 years!

Dec. 21, 2008 at 9:40 a.m. bittersweetdesign

I have always loved horses. Much to my wonder and amazement my husband bought a Chincoteague pony for me, one that I had fallen in love with! She was followed 3 months later by a miniature Sicilian donkey -he is adorable. My childhood dream was realized, but as an adult child!

Dec. 21, 2008 at 9:50 a.m. kimberlyklinedesign

I too was raised with training and showing horses and also recognize many of your items from back in the day! Makes me want to dig all that stuff out and play with it!..... No, it's in the back of the attic...love it!

Dec. 21, 2008 at 10:12 a.m. MyElegantThings

Great collection. I love horses and have my two neighbors horses but I call them mine. They like me best anyways. Great collection!

Dec. 21, 2008 at 10:46 a.m. simbachdesign

I've been collecting antique jodpurs since college and now own 24 pair!..A pony has always been on my Santa's list and still is.. I don't even ride, but I can dress like I do...someday, someday...

Dec. 21, 2008 at 11:15 a.m. treasurefield

My dad had horses when I was a kid. Santa brought a Shetland pony when I was 6 or 7! So I guess I've always loved them.
I make handsculpted horse-profile pendants, brooches, magnets. I love bringing them to life!

Dec. 21, 2008 at 1:32 p.m. pinkflamingo61

It's funny, I've never ridden a horse in my life, yet, the biggest seller for me is equestrian jewelry. I sell to local stores and that's the thing that always sells for me. My step daughter is obsessed with horses though. I think she would pay for their upkeep before her groceries! Nice article.

Dec. 21, 2008 at 1:58 p.m. EJPcreations

Dec. 22, 2008 at 9:23 a.m. mouthwipers

I had an imaginary horse...she was so beautiful! When I wasn't "riding" her I was reading the "Misty of Chincoteague" series. Life was simpler then...

Dec. 22, 2008 at 11:03 a.m. ImSoVintage

My father made my dream come true when I was 12 and bought me a horse. Those were the days. I do have this pretty horse collectible in my shop.

Dec. 22, 2008 at 12:02 p.m. MissTessaMelissa

This is what been on my mind lately. I grew up on a horse ranch that was my grandparents. My great grandma (a short round woman) would dress up as Santa and have our miniature mediterranean horse pull her around the horse show ring in a sleigh and pass out candy to the kids. Then all the kids would have a stick horse race. It is my most cherished memory of my childhood.

Dec. 22, 2008 at 9:30 p.m. InuInspirations

awesome, I always wanted a horse when I was little... I never got one, but thankfully did get to take riding lessons. I still hope to have a horse some day :)

Dec. 28, 2008 at 9:15 p.m. tessablueskies
