This week's Fresh Shop is the impressive HuldraPress. On Etsy less than a month, I happened upon her shop using the Pounce Undiscovered feature and was immediately blown away. Her work is so evocative and, well, fierce! I had to find out more about this new seller. Here's our interview.
Can you tell us a little about the people behind HuldraPress? Who are you and what makes you tick?
My name is Marianne Dages, and I am the creator of Huldra Press. I am a bookbinder, letterpress printer, painter and photographer. I'm from Philadelphia, but I'm about to move to Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina where I will live, work, and continue to make art for the next two years.

What inspires you as a creative person?
I'm inspired by animals, myths and the contrast the between country and city life. The name Huldra Press is inspired by Scandinavian folklore about a forest creature who appears as a woman with a fox's tail. Clouds, foxes, bricks, branches, and mica are things you'll see pop up often in my work. I layer, obscure, and hide imagery in my paintings and books. I love pockets, envelopes, and hidden messages. I try to use recycled and vintage materials whenever I can too. My "Wallet Book" is a good example of these themes.

Did you sell your goods before joining Etsy? If so, how has Etsy changed your business?
Yes, I sell through my website, mariannedages.com, and exhibit often locally. Most of my sales are through word of mouth. Etsy is an exciting venue and new direction for me because it's helping me show my work to a greater audience. It's also inspiring to look through the shops of so many talented people and feel part of a greater community.

How do you like Etsy so far? What are your favorite features of the site? What might you like to see done differently/new features?
I'm liking it a lot! I find it easy to use and fun to browse. My favorite feature would have to be the overall design of the site, for its simplicity and versatility. Users can easily give their shops an original look. I'm always curious to see what the theme for the handpicked items will be, too.
Beautiful stuff!
What have you found lately using Pounce Undiscovered? Who's your favorite newbie?
