I’ve always drawn inspiration from artwork created by children. They have a simple, uninhibited way of expressing themselves without being fearful of being judged. Becoming a father has definitely opened up a new and different avenue of expression which did not exist before in my work. When I spend time with my son I try to share my love of art with him. Coloring, drawing and painting are some of our favorite activities to do together. Some of my favorite pieces of art hanging in our home right now were created by my son.

My name is Paul, aka paulchung. I’m a dad to an active little three-year-old son and husband to a lovely wife. I’m also a part-time artist running a full-time, non-art related business. We love to eat out at local vegetarian restaurants and dream of one day living off the grid and building our own, completely self-sufficient, green home.
About a year ago, my wife, Gemmie, who also has an Etsy shop, introduced me to the world of Etsy. Since then, Etsy has become a big part of my creative resources and has given me a new leash on my artistic endeavors.
It has been quite a journey since I graduated from Art Center College of Design, in Pasadena, CA with a fine arts degree. It’s never easy trying to keep the creative energy alive, continue to pursue your passion and grow as an artist.
From commissioned portraits to large abstract paintings on canvas, I love to work with all types of media and a wide range of subject matter and style.
Whatever time I have leftover between running my business, helping my wife care for our son and doing all the things to make the household run, I continue to look forward to working on my art. And selling on Etsy is a great way to have my work be seen and validated. Thanks, Etsy, for creating such a wonderful marketplace for artists, artisans and crafters around the world.
Since my son was born, my eyes have been opened to a whole new world of products and art. Here are some of my Etsy picks for new dads and kids.

Awesome article with a great perspective from 'the other half'...Paul's work is so simple yet complex at the same time. His clean lines, up-to-date subject matters AND a learning curve to boot...really create great art. Very impressed! I see his son selling his wares in the not to distant future!

Thanks for sharing your perspective and picks! Kids are great inspirations. I love how they can just dive in and create so naturally.
Your work is wonderful - love how you pieces stand on their own but are even better in multiples!!!

Oh wow, Paul. I love your perspective. Seeing parents sharing a love for art with their children is wonderful. I've always thought that excitement about creating often gets shut down early with many children - when they can't draw a horse as well as their brother or no one celebrates their inventions. They decide that they aren't artists and quit. The picture of your son painting is priceless. He looks so absorbed in his work. I love both your shop and Gemmie's and look forward to seeing your son's one day.

Great article, I have two boys and love making art with them. My wife and I enjoy the art they make out of arranged toys, rocks and sticks, not just paint and clay
It is amazing to watch the incredible intuitive aesthetic ability children have.
