Spoil That Mommy! A Mother's Day Compendium with Crabmommy

Avid Etsy-buyer Amanda Gersh writes the blog Crabmommy. She divides her time between motherhood and complaining about it.

As Mother's Day rolls around, I find myself feeling exactly as I did last year. While my 4-year-old daughter is a delicious nugget of a small human, my idea of a perfect Mother's Day is to NOT feel like a mother. Last year my husband indulged my wish, granting me an entire day of wafting around vintage stores — something I've done little of since becoming a mom. What a luxury to be free to examine needlepoint teapot cozies and try on ratty two-tone pumps to my heart's content, without worrying about bored tots bouncing on Heywood Wakefield couches. Bliss!

Of course, Mother's Day takes many ideal forms, often a burned breakfast in bed delivered on a tray by loving offspring. It's all very cute indeed, but if you ask me, it's even cuter when augmented by a day of freedom and aimless wafting for Mom and/or a gorgeous token of affection via Etsy, where a vast emporium of delights awaits any lucky mother if she possesses appreciative and savvy loved ones.

Personalized Child's Silhouette on Canvas, 5 in. x 7 in.

I've always wanted to make a silhouette print of my tot for framing; alas, I'm not very industrious in the home arts. But really, why should I be when Etsy-peeps like Mary Golightly offer silhouette art customized to your color choice, on canvas in this case! Yes, please. By marygolightly, $13.50.

let's go together moleskine notebook (large)

I can't think of any kiddie's mama who doesn't need to write things down in order to remember them. (Except maybe a mother elephant.) The rest of us appear to have a tough time with recall. But I'm getting off track here....What were we talking about...? Ah! Linea Non Grata's cute moleskine notebook, complete with what appears to be a mommy-like creature and a baby-like thing companionably setting off somewhere together! By lineanongrata, $12.

Giant Beaded Round - sleeping beauty

So here's the part where I really, really hope my beloveds are listening up. I'm absolutely mad for Lisa of TQB's large beaded rounds. I sent one of these on an extra-long chain to a new mom friend of mine. It serves as something for baby to grab while nursing and is also an incredibly fetching piece of jewelry whether one has a babe at the boob or not. By tqbdesigns, $38.

Vintage Lusterware meet Succulent

Some mothers nurture effortlessly, capable of raising 12 kids, a menagerie of animals, and a lush garden. Me, I'm the mom with one kid who acts like she has five. (And I struggle to take care of three guppies whom I resent deeply, not to mention my modest indoor plant collection.) All the more reason to give this mommy a succulent. And what could be more spectacular than this luscious succulent potted in a Fire King lusterware bowl? Pretty please! By jwhite2, $27.

great stuff~!!

May 1, 2009 at 6:29 a.m. wildlywonderfulsoaps

I'm a mom of 2 kids and would die for them if had to, but you can't run or hide they are like heat seeking missiles and they will hunt you down and find you in your house.
All moms need a break or to feel special, being a mom is the hardest job on this earth. Little known fact when the soldiers from WW2 on the beach in Normandy were attacked and dying they were calling for their mother as they passed if that doesn't impact you I don't know what would.
Mother's are the threads that hold everything together. Celebrate the honor of being a mother.
