Trends: Nautical Chic

Ahoy, matey!

It seems as though nautical style will never really go out of fashion — it simply seems to flow in and out like the roaring tide, continually reappearing. (This is a terrible metaphor, but true!)

Clean lines and sailor-style accenting go a long way toward a timeless look that is both yacht appropriate and "country club chic." (You can dirty up those whites for a more disheveled approach, which totally gets my vote! Dirty white jeans = sexy.)

These sailor inspired pieces are casual and chic, warm weather appropriate (with some cold weather thrown in for good measure) and sure to get some favorable comments on the pier this season. Our fashion inspirations are at right and below. Check out what Etsy has to offer in nautical chic!

I've been creating nautical pieces for a while already. One of my bigger inspirations is vintage tennis skirts from the 50s and Jean Paul Gaulthier's breton stripes.

I'm in love with the nautical look right now as well. The weather is nice. Makes me want to hop on a sailboat and ride into the sunset.

Yes, yes, yes to nautical. Teenangster made the mistake of showing me this article before she published it, and I stampeded to montgomeryrecordspdx's shop to buy that little sailor dress.

Revivalhouse- congrats on the sale of the blue skirt! I love that look you've put together in that shot...

it seems there are a lot more amazing nautical Etsy items for sale than what gets featured - does anyone know if these "selections" are actually paid-for? also, does Etsy only consider items that have been professionally photographed and feature model-perfect people? feeling so confused as to the real nature of Etsy in 2009...
