How to stiffen felt

Wonder if anyone can help me - I'm going to a wedding next weekend and I want to add a felt embellishment to my hat, but I'm not sure what to use in order to stiffen the piece of felt into a spiral shape.
I'm not too worried about how long it lasts in this instance as it's just for me for the one day!

Well, irritatingly I completely forgot to check how the start spray had worked this morning! (having one of those days!) so I'll have to nip home at lunch and see.
I have used interfacing with some success, but because this is relatively thick felt I was hoping just to use one piece and manipulate it as it is... we'll see - I might have to go back to the drawing board completely!!

Ohhh I didn't know that about wool felt. Thank you!
In the end I didn't use the bits that I'd starched (although they did hold their shape nicely) becuase of the torrential rain forecast (which for once they sadly got right!) and I had a feeling that the felt shapes might melt with contact to that much wind & water!
Thanks so much for the replies ladies :-)

Hello, it's Lora here - I know i'm a bit late but just thought i'd mention blonde shellac - that will REALLY stiffen your felt. I became a bit obsessed with shellacking needlefelted toadstools a while back (by dipping them in a jar of shellac and industrial denatured alcohol..*meths). Helps if the felt is totally dry so you don't get streaks.
