I will start...
My simple but effective tip would be to use every opportunity to let people know about your business. Word of mouth is incredibly powerful and the majority of my sales have happened this way. Once one person has a good experience as your customer they tell all of their friends. Get some cute business cards made up and keep them in your handbag. You never know when you may end up in a conversation about your shop and wish you had your details with you!

I don't know if this is very useful for anyone but I've found it helped me. I use the site wanelo (www.wanelo.com/) to drum up a few listings :)
Its a website where people post up unique products, and other members can save them to wishlists. Its free to join and submit items (other people's or your own). I've had 17 item saves on wanelo and 11 of those have come into my shop.
just a little tip that may help :)

I came across this this morning. If you fancy celebs posing with your products check it out. They choose a selection of handmade items to go into gift bags for The Golden Globes etc. They also offer members guidance in the areas of sales, marketing, social media, and public relations.

That looks good Michelle - I need to get 25 items listed first....
But that's a great find!
and Kashmir - I might try and give wannelo a go (hah it rhymes) but I'm so bogged down with keeping up with everything else atm! It's manic starting up a business!

MOO.com have an offer on at the moment for their fb business cards. Cards are free but you will need to pay around £3.50 for p&p. You get 50 cards for this price and they take a selection of pictures from your fb business page. You can also customise the back of them or delete any photos you don't want on there. I got some recently and they are fab! xxx

Am I right in thinking that Wanelo.com works in the same manner as Pinterest?
Some of my ways of marketing: I generally make my own clothing (cannot find fitting clothing) and ALWAYS wear one of my own hats. In some ways one might say I am a walking advertisment board ;)
By doing so, I do now and then find people wanting to know about my outfits.
Facebook ads work rather well too. It is not expensive and you can target it rather well by age, location, language, gender, interest, activities etc ... and you can now pay by paypal for the add.
And as said above: business cards are handy to have. Make sure they do look memorable and are made of reasonably good card (so they don't tear straight away).
I have washed many business cards by accident because I keep forgeting to check my trouser pockets before the wash ;)

I'm not sure how wanelo works. I have never used it, i'd be interested to know what you think of it if you end up giving it a go.
I love that you wear all of your own clothing. I do find that facebook is the most useful tool for me too.
Thanks for the great tips :)
