so many of us on the team love animals, and may even have our own familiar, or animal that we look to for inspiration or guidance. do you have one? what kind is yours?

mine is a deer. i dreamed of her years ago. the deer's fearful nature, but coupled with grace and power,l feels like it holds messages for me. i've had appearances of other animals in dreams and real life that also share wisdom and provide comfort. but the deer is still my spirit animal.

inspired by lauren's winning treasury... i blogged it here:

I read that your spirit animal can change many times in your life. Depending on what stage you are in and what brings you the most comfort or strength. Since giving birth to my daughter almost a year ago, my animal has been a grey horse. Hey maybe I will paint her.. Thanks for the inspiration!

Or better yet we could do a challenge and have people paint there spirit animal, then make a treasury of them! What do you guys think?

I used to often dream of a large black bear. Interesting thread.

It's not the cutest... but my spirit animal at birth was an opossum. It made my mom go into labor when she was walking across the parking lot for her 7 month checkup. It ran in front of her and scared her into labor...poof! I was born premature. LOL!

I think now my spirit animal is a hummingbird because in the midst of rapid flapping and flying about (busyness), they still look calm and steady.

Great new thread topic in the forums, soo soo refreshing!

what interesting animals! i love the idea of an opossum! and a grey horse definitely deserves a painting. dianne (dearohdeer) said on the blog that her animal was a lemur - how cool is that?

waterskippers, i love that idea! but maybe not a painted spirit animal (i don't paint! it would be awful!) and there are *so* many different kinds of artists on the team. how about just something we make (find or assemble?) inspired by our spirit animals?

and how long do you think we need? a couple of weeks? until easter? or all of april?

Oh yes that sounds great! Maybe until easter?

oooh, I think mine is a nightjar. I'm sure it is a bird anyway and I have been so inspired by this idea that I have created a bird-themed post on the team blog!

I think Dru's idea about creating an work based on our Spirit animal is sooooo inspiring. Perhaps we could post links to them here and then feature them in a treasury or on the team blog??

such an inspiring idea Dru... it's got me all shivery thinking about night-jars!!

Great idea!

I would have to say mine is probably a butterfly (surprise!) probably because I have just felt a connection with them for such a long time. When I watch them (or dragonflies), the world just stops and I am hypnotized by their movements.

BTW Whenever I hear "spirit animal" I always think of the penguin scene from Fight Club (although they called it "power animal")
