I wish we could like responses in threads

Maybe using Facebook since 2007 has gotten to me, but I would love it if we could like responses in threads. I always see ones that I love and find myself reaching for the like button.
Also, if we could directly respond to someone and receive a notification, that would be great! It's easy to miss direct responses, especially on a popular thread

I can understand wanting to be notified of responses to a post, but I don't know what purpose approval of posts would serve. A forum thread is a discussion. Adding up "likes" on posts doesn't contribute much to a developing and thoughtful discussion.
When I "like" on Facebook, I pretty much am saying that I have no energy to respond, but just wanted to say hi.
