Original Post

Hi! This topic has come up sporadically before.

FedEx requires a phone number for delivery. Right now I'm trying to rush a Christmas shipment but am waiting to hear back from a very lovely person trying to help Santa with a Christmas present to their child--just to get a phone number and this delivery on its truck.

Any news on having phone numbers part of the order form?--don't believe there's any e-retailer that doesn't require one.

Thanks!

I routinely send via Fed Ex and have never been asked for a phone number. Interesting.

I put in my own phone number.

I am surprised Wolf, we don't ship FedEx often, but when we do, we have had to provide phone numbers for ourselves and the receiving party.

You can use your own- they'll probably never call anyway.

I use FedEx several times a week and print all my labels through my FedEx account. I think I've had the actual customer phone number twice and just enter my own number where it asks for a phone number. I figure, if there's an issue with delivery, they'll call me and I'll know, and then can contact my customer. So far I've not had a call. Hope that I didn't just jinx myself!!

Thank you for all your comments. But I did once have an occasion where a customer had to be contacted -- so now I'm always following up--especially because FedEx charged me an additional 20.00 in that I shipped to an old address (as given to me by the purchaser, wedding gift.

In any event, its standard for all online transactions to provide a phone number.

I use my own phone number, too. Usually I never get a call, but sometimes I do when it's a larger package, and then I email and convo the buyer that it is scheduled for delivery that day. Usually they can sign the delivery notice and have it delivered the next day if they aren't home.

@funkyjunkyvintage I hope you didn't jinx yourself either! I had to laugh because that is how I think, too.

No, I don't think it is standard actually.

I've never had to give a phone number for any Barnes and Noble.com purchases I've made, or King Arthur flour, or even Subterreanean Press, etc.

Even PayPal doesn't automaticly add my phone number- it's always optional.

It sounds to me like it's that specific carrier (Fed Ex) that's requiring them. Though, as I've said, I've never had to provide mine.

Edit to add- I have verified this with my husband, who actually ships my packages that go by FedEx for me- NO, he has never been asked to provide a phone number.

Perhaps it's a regional thing.
