I like being able to go into a shop and see what sold. That gives me an idea of what customers are looking for. I would love to know how much money those items sold for. I wonder why Etsy doesn't show that information.

How much did it sell for?

I can imagine people hounding supply sellers about why they can't buy those sterling silver chains or cut gems for the price they were sold for years ago. Not to mention the common rookie mistake of underpricing then having to slowly work your way back up to a price you can actually profit from. I think it would also give too much private information on a seller's profits. All in all, I like that the prices are private.
I see it from both sides.
As a seller I don't want it showing. Products and ingredients change, discounts given for customer loyalty and so on, and that should not have a bearing on how we price for others
As a buyer, sometimes I do want to know. Not for the reason of wanting the same price, but at times I want a general idea of what I am looking at price wise and if it's even worth it to contact the seller.

It used to be that sold item prices were visible, but for a host of reasons, sellers petitioned for them to be private. I much prefer it this way. Sold prices are, in a way, proprietary information, and if people choose to raise prices or have sales, or any number of other things, they don't necessarily want a piece by piece price comparison to sit there.
