Why am I paying the same fees as US sellers?

I don't have access to DC (and by extension, Gift cards), and obviously I don't get to use shipping labels, so why am I paying the same amount as those who do?

Can't Etsy institute a lower fee structure for those of us who can't take advantage of the full service?

Either that, or at least roll out full payment processing options to everyone.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your thoughts here. As far as our perspective on the availability of direct checkout and the ability to accept gift cards for sellers outside of the US as well as promotion that's focused on countries other than the US, Marc covers these topics pretty well with these posts:

We also provided some updated information about what we have been and will be working on for countries outside of the US here:

Without getting too stuck in the use of metaphor (I know it's been tricky in this thread!), I know that it's disappointing to sellers who would really like to offer direct checkout to their buyers to not be able to do so. We feel this pretty acutely too, and it's really important for us both a) to offer it to as many people as we can but b) to get it right which, as has been said by several folks in this thread, can potentially take a lot of work depending upon the regulations of each country.

Lastly, we try to serve as many members of the Etsy community as we can with the features that we offer on the site - buyers and sellers alike. Not everyone will necessarily be able to take equal advantage of every project we undertake for the site, and with as broad of a community as we have that's unavoidable; ask a supply seller and a highly stylized art doll creator what their needs and wants are and you'll find a lot of differences among their similarities. We know that you want to offer the choice of DC to your buyers; we want you to be able to offer it as well, and it's something that we're actively working on.

Those of us that use DC pay DC fees in addition to Etsy fees. We ALL pay Etsy fees.

There are *many* threads you can read where the Etsy admin that work on DC have posted about the International legal issues with expanding (and that they are working on it.)
Yep! We pay to use DC. It is not a gift.
Etsy fees are for all. DC is there only if we want it. I did the math a while back and chose Paypal because it cost a bit less.

Anyone know if they made DC fees comparable with PayPal?
I am going to go through all of my DC orders and see what the difference is with the Etsy fees as opposed to PayPal fees. I just feel like I have been paying more to use DC but not sure yet.

I've actually found the DC fees to be slightly less then Paypal. I had some Christmas cards that I sold lots of this winter, priced @ $12.50 and the DC fee was always 3 cents less then Paypal.
I don't use DC or gift cards, and I'm in the U.S., and frankly I'm not complaining.

I think you're missing the point here. That you pay an extra fee on those sales is completely irrelevant to the subject of this thread.

I'm happy with PayPal.
