Original Post

I have read in forums of a scam that looks like it is coming from Etsy asking the shop owner to log into their account to which major problems then arise. Today I got the email of this mentioned scam but know better. However, I know of a couple newbies that were not aware and trusting Etsy was there to help them, they logged into the link and have had nothing but big problems and email accounts hacked.
Please make it aware when there are scams going through to help shop owners, especially the new ones know that is not how Etsy goes about their business.

The forum is a wonderful place for sharing this info. Maybe forward the info to etsy's support team & they can put an official notice up in the admin's section since this is happening so much.

That would be a good idea. Either admin could post a thread in the announcements forum (though from threads I've seen started when there's a big issue, I don't think many look there before posting, but it might help cut down the number of threads started), or a highlighted banner.
I know if I log into my bank account, if there's a scam email going around claiming to be from that bank, there's a highlighted notice announcing it.

There are so many scams going on right now that its just crazy! And not just from Etsy either.

The best piece of advice I would give anyone is to NEVER click on a link in an email address for safety's sake, regardless who its from.

crochetgal is correct, I get phishing email from fake PayPal, Banks and Credit Card companies every day...etsy doesn't warn me about those, so I don't consider it their responsibility.
But they do offer great tutorials on the subject if anyone cares to educate themselves:

crochetgal is right!
There are way too many scams to post them! You need to get familiar w/them because there are lots of similarities & NEVER click on anything you don't know!

Another one that just showed up was from "FedEx"" claiming that a package that I sent was marked as 'undeliverable' and that I needed to open a document to get the information that I need to claim the package.

I've not sent anything via FedEx now for over a year.

Its just another Phishing scheme.

I just spent a WHOLE day catering to a potential customer, looking up over night shipping costs, adjusting listing, sending extra pics, etc. She FINALLY went through with the purchase then said her paypal wasnt working: if I would accept a cheque <- that was my first clue. then I noticed her mailing addy was in NY but the contact email was @live.co.uk. one simple search on that email ending told me all I needed to know: that this was a scam....But I still didnt get what the gain was, until I checked back and saw that she wrote again saying 'if you give me your bank # I can wire the money right through' AHA! reported. cancelled.
be aware.
I considered myself pretty savvy - but I almost got duped! she wore me down all day with her urgency (I even had to calm her down with the fact that it was Sunday and post wouldnt go out anyway) it was after 10:00 at night when that last convo came through --- they prey on us because we are 'hungry' even for the smallest of sales.

If I don't see "New Finds" or the "Newsletter", I will not open it. It gets dropped in the trash. :)

I'm glad you posted this. I had the same type of email from "FedEx" stating that a package that I ordered was "undeliverable" and I also needed to open the document to contact them. I didn't have anything coming from FedEx, but I didn't realize it was a scam. Thanks!
