Ebay allows you to click on it. IMO Etsy is protecting the seller at the buyer's expense. This info should be open esp. as more and more shops are really stretching the notion of handmade.

why is seller's negative feedback not searchable?

The only time the feedback isnt public is if it occurred during a purchase and not a sale. The buyers feedback is always private so if it was the seller that purchased, that buying feedback is private. The feedback for the items they sell is public and available to the buyers; you will know how they perform as a seller but not a buyer. But just like any buyer, that feedback is private.
I don't think it's a very compelling argument that because something is available on Ebay it should be available on Etsy.
The feedback is open. You just have to look for it.
And if you have to go through hundreds of positives to find the one negative (or however many), it's likely not a sign of a problem with that shop.

Well, you can see some obvious seller feedback here on how easily accessible negative feedback should be. :)
I agree with OP but would use a different word. The different aspects of feedback should be filterable (I didn't understand what you meant by searchable - brain fart, I guess). But, you should be able to click on neutral or negative and see what those feedbacks were.
