Keep Deactivated Listings Inactive

Please, go back to the original method of keeping deactivated listings under Inactive even after they've expired.

I went to renew some items that had expired and noticed that my deactivated listings are now being moved after they expire to the Expired section.

This can create confusion for sellers, especially sellers with a lot of listings.

If something expires, most of the time I choose to renew it but there could be dozens of reasons why I deactivate a listing, most likely because it is no longer in stock (sold elsewhere). When something that I deactivate gets moved to expired then I run the risk of accidentally renewing something that I don't even have. It doesn't really make sense to move a deactivated listing to expired. Sellers choose to deactivate listings. Etsy expires listings.

They really need to be kept separate. Please, go back to keeping deactivated listings Inactive and stop moving them to Expired.

i would like them to change it back also, but for now i am writing "inactive" on my listings before i deactivate them so i do not automatically renew them if i find them in my expired listings.
I agree, this causes so much confusion, please consider putting it back the way it was. :)

That's smart. I wish I had known they would be moved before I deactivated them so I could do the same thing. I'll just have to carefully screen my expired listings now before renewing. But I really, really hope Etsy changes this back.
i was lucky because i read what was happening with the inactives in the forum and was able to change the listings before any of them expired.

but it was only luck. i can see what a mess this could be.

1. "This
made it hard to know whether you'd be charged a fee to activate a
listing."

Not really. We get a highlight at the top of the item before we renew or publish an item that lets us know if we're going to be charged the twenty cents. I'm sure we can stick with that.

2. "We hope this will make it easier to know what's going on in your shop!"

Definitely not. Deactivated items are being mixed in, right in the middle of, items that are active and expiring. How can this create anything but confusion? More than likely, sellers are renewing items that aren't available and then dealing with even more confusion when they sell an item that they don't have in stock.

Definitely a change that causes more bad than good. Please, change it back. Deactivated listings need to be kept separate from Expired.
Couldn't agree more. This happened to me just this morning. I renewed something from the expired folder, and this thread made me go and check whether I actually do have the item in stock. I don't. I must have sold it on my own site and so deactivated it from my Etsy listings. I'll be cautious now, but it seems a strange change for them to have made. Surely they realise we all sell on other platforms and do shows, which makes it important to be able to distinguish between what's expired and what we ourselves have purposely withdrawn from sale.

*sigh*
Yes - it's very confusing for sellers, especially when they have a ton of listings and have things expiring daily and often have to deactivate listings. This can really cause problems if we accidentally relist something that we are out of.
I agree, it's very confusing. I've begun labeling my inactive listings after I just renewed an inactive one by mistake. I did write to Etsy about this issue and they just offered and provided a refund for that listing. Didn't sound like they would be changing anything.
I posted this as a question for Marc, please vote for it:
