A shipping calculator would be good if it also included a space for us to put in how much we pay for our boxes, peanuts, packing paper, bubble wrap, label costs all of that. I already take a beating on shipping as I never recoup all that I am paying to package it up for shipping.

Donna and Darrel, I don't think most shipping calculators account for shipping supplies. I'm ok with that because you can just add it into your item price (or not). But as etsy becomes more and more international, it would be soooo helpful!

That's fine if you live in the US and ship within the US, but this is an international site, so it wouldn't help everyone.

yes, a real shipping calculator would have a place for entering handling charges too.
and what etsy needs is just a real shipping calculator, much more than the primitive one they have now. not one with an integrated postage calculator, as there is no way to integrate one with every post system in the world.
and one integrated with USPS cant be used by all sellers, and not even by many US sellers like me

a shipping calculator can be used by all, it doesnt have to be integrated with any countrys post system. the seller enters all the parameters that it would use to calculate the cost for the customer, based on total weight or total purchase amount, and their state/province and country

On that note, I usually use FedEx, and a calculator would probably be based on USPS Priority rates. When I do use USPS Priority, I use Regional Rate boxes which are less expensive.
Artisan, wouldn't the customer have to enter all the parameters? Even on eBay, it's based on USPS rates. For other countries, they have their own eBay sites with their particular calculator.

all the customer would have to enter is their zip code, state, and/or country. the seller would enter what to charge by weights per zip code/state/ and/or country
if you look at the shipping calculator we have in paypal, you will see how that is set up by the seller. it doesnt use any info from USPS, only what you enter. you enter, for example, 1-2 pounds- $7 to all 50 states. or $7 to 10 states, and $10 to the other 40 states
when I had my own sit\e on yahoo stores, they had a great calculator I could set up

ShipStation has an excellent postage calculator. Well worth checking out. If you're using PayPal and/or Stamps(dot)com, you'll be thrilled with ShipStation.
