The "Who" of Handmade

Why is it so uneven how these new policies are inforced?

Would this not be a better example of a collective....considering her "factory made" was actually designed, and the making overseen by her.

Per etsy's TOU: Production assistance for certain intermediary tasks in some crafts may be acceptable. The following policies govern use of production assistance in the creation of handmade items:

-An assistant or third-party vendor's involvement may not comprise a majority share of a handmade item's creation.

So my question is this.
If one opens a shop and states they are the designer and also states the names of the MANY production assistants that create, build, photograph, package and ship said items, how is it possible that the 'artist' in question actually does "comprise a majority share of the creation" of said product? Seems to me the designer actually has about the least amount of the share of the creation of said items.
Is it such a shop is etsy legal?

wow, just .. wow
Id like to share some other encouraging words that I recently came across:

"When you buy from a small mom business, you are not helping a CEO buy a third vacation home. You are helping a little girl get dance lessons, a little boy get his team jersey, a mom put food on the table, a dad pay a mortgage, or a student pay for college. Our customers are our shareholders- and they are the ones we strive to make happy. Thank you for supporting small businesses!" - unknown

This closed shop does not appear to have violated Etsy's TOU by today's definition of a "collective".

Interested to hear an explanation on this one.
I really don't feel that is has clarified anything.
It certainly feels like Etsy is washing its hands of trying to verify that anything is truly handmade by making intentionally vague assertions.

So is Etsy a place for individual crafters/small businesses, or a place for large businesses to promote their "handmade" (by laborers overseas) products?
Is there clarification on that?
Because it certainly feels as though Etsy simply doesn't care if mass producers or resellers drown out true artisans.

Pier One would qualify as an Etsy seller under the "clarified" collective rules.

I don't understand why it's so hard for Etsy to say "We like money, and we're going to support people who bring us the most money."
That's far more honest than stumbling around trying to deny the support of resellers and mass producers.
Basically, what constitutes a collective vs. production assistance and how much production assistance is allowed? Figure THAT out and let us know, please.

The problem is at what point does it cease to become handmade and become disqualified to sell here? How much help is allowed? Where to draw the line? Couldn't designers who outsource their designs to factories also be included in this category and therefore be allowed to sell on Etsy?
I have no problem with a small time shop growing over time to the point of needing help to run their business. In fact, I think it's wonderful. Good for them. But at what point is that "growth" and the needed assistance considered too much for THIS specific selling venue?
