Paypal Payments - Can anyone answer this query?

A customer asked if she could pay a deposit by postal order. I am UK-based, although my items are priced in US$ (most of my customers have been from USA so far). I don't have a US$ bank account, so don't want to accept a money order in $.

So, I want to reiterate my Payment Policy, which is payment by Paypal.

I messaged Paypal, as I couldn't find this information on their site - to ask if they could confirm that my Etsy customer could definitely pay by Debit or Credit card, via Paypal, even if she didn't have a Paypal account.

I have been trying to get a straight, sensible answer from Paypal, but they keep giving me general "one-size-fits-all" quotes from their business account information, which have not answered the query at all.

Can Admin - or anyone else who knows where to find the info (I have tried) - please confirm that this is the case?

I don't want to tell this to a customer, then find I was wrong.

Thanks in advance!

Lizzie

yes, they can pay as a "guest" a limit number of times. when checking out, they choose paypal as the payment method. when they get to the paypal login page, there is a link that says "dont have an account?, pay with your credit/debit card" , or something like that. they just click that
Yes, I've done this before when I wanted to pay with a different card than what was attached to my PP account.

You don't have to link anything from paypal, just politely let them know that security purposes and for the fastest shipping, paypal is the only acceptable payment you take right now.
so long as she hasnt already used the guest payment upto her limit she can pay via PP without an account
If she has hit that limit, maybe she has another card she could use?

PP never say exactly what the limit is -- sometimes it seems it is a monetary limit, other times its a number of transactions

If this is just the deposit -- how was she planning to make the final payment?

Unfortunately it isn't always that simple but don't tell tell the customer that! Just bear in mind you may lose the sale. I have lost a sale from someone who couldn't pay by card I think they just ended up in a loop never able to enter card details.
Well, for anybody reading this, if you do accept money orders, the safest bet is the USPS MONEY ORDER.
I have found the same as others, you can check out as a guest through paypal only a limited number of times. I used to do it all the time until one day I couldn't :( So you can let your buyer know that if she hasn't hit the (unknown) limit she can.
I have been using Etsy's Direct check out. Which would be great for you in this situation. You may want to look in to that as an additional form of Payment.
originalfindings -- the OP is in the UK. Direct checkout is only available for sellers in the USA, so of no use in this situation

it is that simple. your customers issue was probably that they used up their guest purchases, and paypal was now making them open an account. once you click that link and enter info, it will either process the payment, or prompt you to open an account
