Is this a new trend for promoting?

I always like to check out people who favorite my items and see if there is anything I'd like from their shop. Well, I've noticed that recently I've had a few sellers hearting my items and they just seem to be trying to promote their own shops by doing so. They've joined in the last couple days and already have like 5000 favorite items. Based on what they are selling it is obvious to me that they just are trying to get people to look at their shop. It seems to be working for them based on the sales they've had in just a couple days. Is this something I can report? Should I just ignore it (which is hard since it shows up in my activity feed)? Or should I be doing the same thing???? ;)

I don't get it. How would liking your items promote their shop?
If you like something, favorite it.
I do think that random favoring is a little like spamming - but that is just my humble opinion.

^^ ditto ^^
If it's the same ones that are in my activity feed, I don't know that I'd copy their tactics!!!

There's nothing against the rules about having lots of favorites, so what would you report? I say just ignore it.
They go around favoriting items (thousands a day), it shows up in your activity feed, you check them out and find their items. It's very obvious if it's happening to you. If you still don't understand, convo me as I don't want to call out any shops specifically.
personaloasis, I was really just kidding about doing it myself. It just seems so sneaky and spammy. It feels wrong, but I guess it's probably not against the rules at all.
So, how does this promote their shop?
Liking or favoriting other people's items rarely works to promote your own shop, it's more of a what goes around comes around sort of thing.
If other people like your items - then those items are shown to their circle. If someone who is in very few circles favorites your items, very few people will see it. So there's no promotion there.

If someone favorites one of your items and then you look at their shop and decide to buy something that you like, I don't think it's marketing as much as they have a product that you wanted.

I know exactly what you mean, Wendy!

There are at least 3 shops who keep favoriting my stuff for the last few days - many, many, many items every day. It is very annoying and they are obviously not legitimately favoriting anything.
