Anyone ever done crafting classes?
Classes I have taken cut off at 10 people, which is too many. I would suggest cutting it off at no more than 8, less if you can afford to do it. Materials are included for the basic project, but if someone wants to do something different or do another project, then there is an additional fee for the extra material.
Definitely don't sell yourself short! Build in the time you'll spend planning and prepping into your costs/prices as well.
Then they pay you a set fee for teaching it.
They will make money on the class for advertising it.
You should set a class limit anywhere from 6 to 20 depending on what you are doing
As for materials, I prefer to have the class material listed and priced out in the class description, so the students know what they are getting.
I usually ask the hosting site to collect the materials fee at the time the students register. They can either incorporate it into the class fee or have the students pay it separately.
Then the hosting site can pay you a check for teaching and a check for the material fee collected, or combine them.
You should also have a cut off date for the class registration so you know ahead if there is enough students to have the class, and enough time to get the materials together.
That way everything is paid ahead and t you don't have to handle any money before the class.
There are always students who show up late and you don't want to have to stop and waste class time collecting money.
Also, some don't show up at all
Make sure there is a clear written contract and have your pay for teaching, class materials, times, dates, and what is done with fees from students who don't show up, etc.
I have not gotten paid by not having a contract, learned that lesson.
Usually classes charge students $ 40 per a 3 hour class.
I think the last I got paid was $ 50 per hour plus student materials fees of $20 per student..
As to supplies - if it was something the store did not sell, I had extras to sell to students...apart from the class fee and I kept all of that. If the shop had the supplies, I simply sent them into the shop to buy what hey forgot.
