Number of items available and custom orders

Oops I didn't mean custom, I meant made to order!

I've just gone and made some of my listings say there are multiple items available, maybe to give people the idea they can by more than one, and to try out the new feature. But all my items are made to order (once the first one is bought), so is that wrong? I CAN make 3 or 6 or whatever, so that's why I put the higher number, just not sure if I shouldn't be doing that....?

I make my tags to order usually. I list them in quantities of 5. As long as you can make it within the time you state that it takes to ship items then I don't see the problem. Perhaps it would be handy to make sure you tell customers in your shop announcement how long production time is.

As long as you can remake the item, there's nothing wrong with listing multiples. I still prefer to list one, however, and just relist when the item sells if I can make another.
Denise, I thought I would prefer that because I thought it would affect my views because of the time of day things were relisted, but it hasn't. I am surprised but I prefer the fact that they relist themselves!
I'm a little leery of listing things that I don't have in stock. What if I can't get that fabric again, or the sewing machine has to go in for repairs, or I'm sick? I am starting to make two of everything when I make, but don't think I will list more than what I actually have unless it is listed as made to order. Just cautious that way! Like raising kids; I never told them we were going to the circus until I had the tickets in hand because I didn't want them to think I had lied to them, if the tickets were all sold out!
Yep, you're fine.
I see more and more listings that say made to order here, do any of you posting think that is a deterrent to a buyer?

I have a couple of things that are always out of stock but I make them regularly and know they turn out, but I've seen items that are very intricate and often wonder if the item I order will be the same. or,
conversely if I am the seller whether or not I can duplicate the item exactly.
Catherine,
I totally understand that...
I think with me, though, it's more of a "reminder" sort of thing...and peace of mind!

If I let something automatically relist and I forget to remake it, then there may be a scramble to get it done when purchased...this way, I relist when I know I either have another or can make it immediately.

Obviously, I may miss out on a buyer who is ready to purchase at the same moment the item sells to someone else, but for me it's more comfortable this way:))
My whole shop is made to order and I list multiples. Sometimes someone wants a wreath for their home and the same one as a gift to someone. And some people have double front doors and want two of the same wreath.
I do the same, but it's easy for me since I have bolts of fabric and can get my orders made pretty quickly.
