Attn: Admin.

I've been reading post after post pertaining to all the DC problems.
My guess is that DC probably was developed by some "College Whiz Kid" who wanted to find an easier way for the customer to check out and pay. But didn't count the cost and take into consideration of all the problems that it has already caused for the sellers.

Is it really too difficult for everyone to open a Paypal account to either buy or sell on Etsy? eBay only uses Paypal and it works for them. I know you don't have to tell me that eBay owns Paypal.

IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT!

I'm not that kind of person who jumps on the bandwagon like everyone else
when something new comes along to sign up for it. I'm from the old school and I won't even pay my bills on line. I sit down write out a check and mail it the old fashioned way. I want USPS to stay in business.

And now Etsy just developed the gift card that can be used when paying for purchases. I'm waiting to read all the posts about how the gift cards are not working in the DC system.

Etsy it's not fair that you offer DC to sellers in the USA, but international sellers can't have DC yet!!

Etsy can you guarantee that a hacker can't access your system and steal credit card information or money from my sales?

I don't want Etsy having control over my money at all. I want control of when I decide to transfer money from my Paypal account to my bank account.

My post has a harsh overtone and the reason for it is that I was a victim last year of internet credit card fraud. Somehow a person stole my credit card information and used my Discover Card number and bought a big ticket item from Home Depot in the sum of $1,700 and then used it a second time to pay for a cell phone bill. I never received an alert from Discover Card warning me. Then I found out about it several weeks later, I immediately cancelled the card and filed a police report. I was not responsible for the charges, but who really lost out was Home Depot and the cell phone company.

If Etsy doesn't give us the option of either having Paypal or DC, I will be forced to close my shop along with other sellers who also don't want to sign up with DC.

Problems? I've had it for 5 months in 2 shops and not had one single problem, it works like a dream sorry.

Oh and there are lots of reasons people cant open paypal accounts, oftentimes paypal have struck them off in the past too.
DC isn't and either/or instead of paypal option, its an extra added bonus to offer our buyers another payment option, for those who can't/wont open a paypal account.

Bottom line is that nothing is fool proof. Having worked for a large credit card company, I can tell you its just not gonna happen. If you only carry cash, someone is going to lift your wallet or mug you. If you only pay online, eventually someone will hack you. And if you do neither and only use a credit card, someone will hack the credit card COMPANY and have your info anyway.

You cant avoid it. You have money and people will make attemtps to take it.

The best thing you can do is use it in a way that its protected. If you have cc fraud, they will usually take the hit for you and credit you what you lost. Paypal has certain protections too. But there are a surprisingly amt of people who dont buy online ENOUGH to feel comfortable linking a bank account and using it. Fair enough.

All Im saying is, if you are uncomfortable with it, dont use it. But dont kid yourself that your money is "safe". Cause its always vulnerable.

Ive had no issues with DC. I link it to an account thats just for Etsy and so its not like my rent or whatever is at risk. If you decide you dont like it, you can turn it off.

Have you ever used your credit card at a store, restaurant, gas station, atm? All of those have had numerous incidents of credit card theft. If you are truly concerned about theft again, I would not only advise not using DC, I would advise never using a credit card anywhere.

I have heard all of the complaints about DC and I truly understand why some shops won't use it, however, I like it and hope that sellers in other countries will be offered it soon (looks like some in 2013) as well.

It isn't mandatory and if you think it is easier for both you and your customers to use PayPal, why does it matter if other sellers choose to use it?

What are you talking about? You do have the option of using PP, DC, money orders, checks.

i like DC, just got a big order and that's how the customer paid. In fact lots of customers pay that way. Others use PP. Most people like having a choice of payment options.

Though it does suck that international customers can't use it. But etsy is probably working on it. All new things take time. Paypal didn't happen over night either.

Etsy is a business. You either play by its rules or get out. We are not the boss :)

PS ....the only "problems" I hear about are from handmade-ers that use the money to MAKE or ship the item. But I dont consider that really fair. I mean, most jobs you have to wait 2 weeks to get paid. Its a luxury to get it instantly. If you keep a decent amt on the side for making your items and shipping and then use DC as the incoming it works fine.

I haven't heard of any major problems from sellers who actually use DC, only speculation about what may or may not happen by those who don't use it.

How can you complain about dc when you haven't used it ?
