SCAM Warning!!!! Help me?

Ever since I posted a $350 Chanel jacket in my shop, I have been dealing with scammers on Etsy! So bummed.

I know all the usual scams, but encountered a new one the other day I thought I would share.

A lady messaged me from Canada expressing her interest in the jacket. Stopped responding, then a man messaged me who ended up purchasing the jacket. When i asked him why his address wasn't confirmed on PayPal, he claimed he was buying the jacket for his girlfriend and sending it to her address.

Ended up being an address in Canada to a lady with the same name as the first who messaged me!

This scammer created TWO new etsy accounts in an attempt to scam me. I refunded through PayPal and never heard back from the guy.

Wondering if anyone can give me any advice on how to go about selling this item.

Never had problems like this with the Etsy community before :(

Anything I can do other than making sure their address is confirmed on PayPal? Signed delivery confirmation, etc.?

An unconfirmed address doesn't mean it is a scam. I have shipped many times to an unconfirmed address (international sales).

Maybe he really was buying it for her since she was interested in it and told him about it?

Maybe it was a "Real" buyer?

To protect yourself, you could ask the buyer to change the address in Paypal, temporarily, so you'll be covered under their buyer protection.

If I understand correctly, all a confirmed account on PayPal means is that the user has attached a bank account. It has nothing to do with whether the buyer is legitimate. Many countries can not have confirmed accounts through PayPal.

Do you only ship to confirmed accounts?
I see nothing in your policies about that....

Just confused and wondering what made you think it was a scam?

Wow. Your description is harsh and off-putting. And that photo of Rihanna - did you take it? If not, the photographer could come after you for theft of intellectual property.

My advice is to change those things and create a more welcoming environment in order to sell the piece. Some info on provenance would help too.
