This has come up frequently in the Site Help Forum today. I believe it is a bug. Many of us (myself included) are finding we have moved to new towns and cities courtesy of Etsy. Apparently, in my case, the State of Maryland was swallowed up by the State of NY. I now live in Maryland, New York. Going in and correcting this does not help. It looks right when we fix it on our own pages but once we go back to an active shop site, it is again wrong.

Hi Everyone. I'm so sorry for this confusion regarding locations. We recently updated the way we store profile locations. This will enable some fantastic new features that our old system could not support. Unfortunately as we were moving some of you on to the new system there was an error that didn't allow you to update your location. That error has been fixed and I've gone in and fixed all the broken locations mentioned in this thread.
Moving forward there shouldn't be any issues updating location on your public profiles. If you find your location is not correct you can simply reset it to the correct location.
One more note to Dee-Dee, I'm so sorry we're displaying the historic name for Tayport. We should have that fixed very soon and you don't need to take any action.

Hi all,
You shouldn't be experiencing any discrepancies with location when signed in and signed out anymore. As John Marc wrote earlier we have been updating our location data to display more accurate information. But in the process a few locations changed inadvertently. If yours changed, please update it and it will show correctly now.
Thanks and sorry for the glitch!

I wanted to chime in again about the problem awelldressedbullet brings up. With this switch we've started to get location data from "Geonames" a more comprehensive and open location database. Spanish, Ontario shows up in their data set as a "Parks Area" not a "Populated Place" so you won't find it currently available as a profile location.
I've sent an update to geonames to reclassify Spanish, ON as a populated place. Once they approve it your location will start showing up as selectable in our data as well. With our old data source we would not have been able to effect changes to the data set and get a fix like this set up. I'm sorry you're temporarily without a town to choose. While we get this worked out you can select a nearby town from the drop down to ensure you're items inclusion in local search results.

Yes, but do you show up in local searches? You must choose a location from the drop down menu to be included in a local search. It's frustrating that not only is it not fixed but admin is now ignoring this thread!

Hi Beadbrats,
Still working through a number of issues including your special case. We populate our location data from a source called geonames (it's a publicly available data base of place names) and they have your location listed as you are seeing it and not Bronx.
We'll update this thread when it's updated. Thanks for hanging in there!

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all your help reporting these issues it's been a great help to us to get these reports.
To anyone having trouble with your profile location and your appearance in local search results - please first try updating your location on your Public Profile page by clearing the City box and then typing your location, selecting it from the drop down list that appear, and saving. After trying that if you are still noticing issues feel free to post them in this thread or submit a support request. We want to get any more issues that come up fixed as soon as possible.
We just pushed out a fix that should eliminate the issue that Dee-Dee and Sharon have been seeing with their location display. Both Tayport, UK and Launceston, AU have been fixed and will display correctly from now on.
Beadbrats, I understand your frustration with "Bronx" being displayed as "Borough of Bronx" but unfortunately since that is a problem with our data source the fix is going to take a little bit longer to get out. We have submitted the fix upstream and are investigating if there is something we can do in the meantime.
Jenny, I went in and set your location to Jensen Beach and made sure you'll appear in local search as well.
To provide better local results for buyers currently we do not include very broad locations in local search. You're free to choose "Southern California" as your location but you won't appear in Local Searches if you do so. If you'd like to appear in local search but don't want to reveal your exact location we recommend choosing a nearby big city as your shops location.
Thanks again everyone,
John Marc

Just wanted to jump in and let beadbrats know that The Bronx is fixed now and let awelldressedbullet know that we got the fix into Geonames' data and Spanish, Ontario is an available option now as well.
Thanks for all the help with the transition everyone I'm sure we'll still see occasional issues pop up here and there but we're much more prepared to deal with them from now on.

Hey Splashin! Thanks for reporting this here too - hope they're working on it.
ETSY - my shop location is coming up as Niagara Falls, Ontario, CANADA on some people's pages - including my own. My location is actually Niagara Falls, NY, USA.
Is this bug being worked on? An admin named Leslie tried to fix mine, based on my post in the Site Help forums, but it didn't fix it.
-thanks-

Okay, apparently Maryland is still part of NY. It appears correctly when I look at my profile page but wrong in the public viewing mode. i even tried wiping it out completely and putting it in fresh. It still reads correctly when I look at it in the edit mode but wrong in the public mode. It's not a big enough problem to spend a lot of my time on but just one more case of an Etsy problem that is NOT being fixed.

Bumping this as its happening to me too, only mine is a little stranger. My location is being displayed as Ferry Port-on-Craig, which ceased to exist over 100 years ago when it was renamed Tayport. Up until Friday my location was listed as Tayport, but its seems Etsy's placed me in the wrong century now :/

I seem to have moved 1 town over myself. so im bumping for help!

Bumping again, still a century out of sync

I've moved 215 miles west in this shop, but my other 2 shops have stayed right where I put them ;-D. The really weird thing is, my location info on my account profile page still reads what I put into it, not this new location which is showing on my shop page.
But I don't think any of us have it as strange as Dee-Dee - a location that hasn't existed for over 100 years?!?!?!?!
Hope they get this figured out soon, but at least it doesn't seem to be site-wide.
