That cancel request button is driving me crazy

In today alone I've had to cancel like 8 sales. All either found pieces for cheaper, didn't read the lead time, parents cancelling sales their teenagers made (without permission I guess); I mean why, oh why Etsy did you decide to put a cancel request button so easily accessible?

It's annoying since all the pieces are made and even labels were printed out for the majority of those orders. Orders from like 2-3 days ago requesting to be cancelled; why didn't Etsy think of putting a time limit to that.

Sigh, sorry for the rant everyone, it's that it's frustrating to have everything ready and have this happening. That button just shouldn't be that accessible; there's should be a series of questions asked and we should be made known of the reason why every customer wants to cancel (we only get a auto-generated polite apology message). I've been asking customers to find out. One customer just wanted to cancel because she wrote her address wrong!

It's not fair to sellers.

I never made a request to cancel an order because I take my time before I buy, compare similar items, read descriptions, view all the photos, and read policies.
Oh my! I am so sorry this happened to you! :( I hope that Etsy admin sees your message and will address this. You may want to go to one of Marc's threads and sellers can go vote on this. I am sure many will agree with this and vote.

Oh my. I didn't even know about it. So much for letting us run our own business and make our own policies.
that's crazy. how about a $5.00 restocking fee or something? maybe even $2.00. i'd be tempted to use a bulk editor and put that or all sales final on every listing...
This is exactly why I am thinking of adding a "restocking" fee to my account. My time is not worthless....

Are you getting cc and paypal chargeback fees for those cancelled orders?
Can't all this refunding raise flags on your paypal account as well?
I know, that's what I'm worried about Maya. And I honestly think I'll have to put restocking fees up also because this is insane. I do get a large volume of sales and a large volume of cancels just because 'Oh I found something cheaper' isn't fair, especially if the piece is ready to be shipped or you didn't read my lead times.
I agree, it's not fair to sellers-- especially if an item is made to order, and the cancel button stays until it ships. Etsy really need to rethink this.
that must be frustrating to go through and i agree, completely unfair to sellers. there definitely needs to be time limits set, because once an item has shipped, there's no telling whether you'll ever get it back. basically, a buyer can pay, get their money back and keep the item.
