Original Post

Hi! I have recently decided to re-join the etsy community after spending some time living abroad. I've only ever sewn for myself (size small/xsmall) and would really like to take a go at selling some of my designs on etsy. However I don't know how to convert my patterns into bigger sizes. I'd like to keep it simple and do just small, medium, and large sizes versus doing sizes 0 - 10. Please post if you have ideas. Thanks bunches :)

you might have more luck getting an answer to your question if you try some of the etsy teams. sewing teams or pattern teams. i am not quite sure where you would find an answer.

have you tried googling your question?

Here is a great sewing team, if you post this question in this team I'm sure you will find some help.

Either you can pay a company to grade your original pattern, or you can learn how to do it yourself. It's far too detailed a subject to go into in one post so I would suggest doing a Google search for 'grading patterns' and go from there. There's plenty of resources online that will get you started, with recommended further reading.

Good luck, and I hope that helps!

pattern grading looks scary as hell when you're new to it, but it's not so bad. there are quite a few tutorials online. there are two methods for resizing patterns, the cut and spread method (cutting and dividing the pattern, spreading and retracing it) or the shift method (shifting the pattern the required amount and retracing it, although you can also just use a pattern master or set square to measure and mark the points, then join them, so the outcome is the same) and this method i personally find way easier.

find which works best for you. or there are companies that will do it for you, not sure what they charge though

One sewing shop here in my area only charges $30 to do it, while another girl I used to use charged $250. The $250....huge mistake. Just buy a Grading Grid at JoAnns for $50, its not difficult to do and Best of Luck!!

Oh, and um..size 10 is a medium, NOT a large...so if you are doing small/medium/large make sure you cover appropriate sizes:)

Thanks for the replies! I was thinking I might use a medium model to draft my medium patterns.
