I just got the following email from Paypal

We are writing to let to let you know that we had a technical issue for three hours on January 27th and 28th that impacted transactions from some of your customers. This technical issue caused payments from your customer’s PayPal accounts to be duplicated, which means some of your customers paid more than once for the same transaction. We apologize for this issue and are working hard to make it right.

Last night, we reversed the second transaction back to customer’s PayPal accounts or credit cards. If the duplicate transaction came from their bank account, we have placed the funds in their PayPal account balance and are working today to move them back to their bank account.

If you have any questions or are encountering issues as a result of this matter, please contact us at 1-888-221-1161.

Customers like you are PayPal’s top priority. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we get this situation resolved.

Sincerely,

PayPal

I did have a transaction that day, so I checked my account and not only did Paypal reversed that charge once, but twice, so now the transaction is not paid for at all. I called paypal to straighten this mess out and they advised me to contact the customer again and rebill them for the transaction.

What a mess this is.

I had several PayPal sales yesterday but everything looks fine.

Are you positive this email wasn't spam?

Wow, that sucks BIG time!

I've just checked and mine is fine, phew.

Thanks for hi-liting this

I refunded 2 of my 3 overpayments within a few hours, & Paypal did not refund the remaining one. I guess I was lucky

I read somewhere that PayPal did some sort of systems upgrade and is having problems stemming from that.

I see where one of my payments was "removed" on the 28th. Not sure what that means, but it appears to have sent through on another transaction.
