Staying in first page of a given section?

Hi all!

I have a question.

I am just over 4 months into selling on Etsy and doing pretty good as I use a auto renew app. that renews certain items at certain times. So I tend to get a OK amount of views that way.

But when I search sections, say "Art / Sculpture" (browse sections) I always see the same sculptures on the first page. And one seller is always the first picture.

How and why are these sellers always at the front of the browse sections. Is it because they auto renew their items every minute? Or is the search based on most viewed?

Anyone have any ideas how to keep a item closer to the front of the line in a specific category?

Just wondering how Etsy's browse categories place items in order.

Also wondering if any of you use auto renew successfully. And how much. Just amazed these certain sellers are always on page 1!

Thanks.
Charlie

I (think) that the number of views an item receives pushes it further up in the searches.

i do not use renewing as a sales strategy since all the places to see recently listed items have pretty much disappeared. i concentrate on accurate tags and titles to bring in my views plus outside of etsy promotion.
This is a great question and I have wondered this too!

Even in my own shop I have a couple of items that sometimes make it to the first or second page of the "baby shoe" search. I have tried to model my other listings after these but they never show up as high. I don't know why...
I definitely need to know the answer to this. :/
Anyone? I would like to know this too.

Thanks for enlightening me on the new(er) changes. I was following the advise of another long time Etsy seller. But with the new changes I can see your point:) ..and with over 3 thousand sales you must know what your talking about:)

...still want to know how these sellers stay on that first page...I can only imagine the view counts from that kind of visibility!
I've read in the Forums that the FIRST page of each Browse section is curated by Admin. Don't know if that's true, but if it is, then Admin is choosing which and where the items are on the first page.
I'd like to have an official answer as well.
I had to try it out a while back, so i renewed an item. It started at the first page of browse and slowly it went down to page 2,3,etc.
No crazy things happening, like skipping pages or something
