I didn't quit my job day job with Etsy, on the contrary Etsy provided me a new job (as a seller) and I am really enjoying it.

I live in Montevideo (Uruguay), I am 58 years old and I worked practically all my life on ICTs. Two years ago I found myself without a job and not knowing what to do with my life. Getting a new job at my age is quite difficult here. I am lucky because I didn't need the income to pay for my expenses and I never get bored, I always find interesting things to do.

Still, working, producing, has always been an important part of my life . And I missed the online world. You are never completely offline these days but I missed working online, belonging to a community. At the same time I didn't want to go back to the same kind of work. I didn't want to have to deal with the stress and the responsabilities.

I have a good eye for the arts but I am not an artist myself. I would never be able to produce the wonderful crafts that I see on Etsy. One day I thought that I live in a city full of history and antiques, I like searching and researching and I love ciberspace and that is how Carambas was born.

The story about the name of my store is a another story and I don't want to make this posting too long, but it is related to my dog.

I didn't need courage, I was just happy having the possibility of a new beginning.

I love this thread! the Etsy community was so amazing and helpful, so I didn't have any fear about joining and selling my custom designs here! And after one year I think Etsy will be my full time job because I love this community....

Hello Everyone,

I've been looking for a "fear+forum" site, where the community is actively engaged in the topic "How to conquer Fear of Failure, so I can Start my own business"?.
I read comments on WARRIOR FORUM about the Etsy Community.
I have read many amazing constructive comments from many people.

I am currently doing a Course at the University of the Sunshine Course
Queensland Australia on Mental Health.
The topic of my Thesis is: How to conquer Fear of failure, So I can Start my Own business"?
I would be very grateful for your comments in regard of this Topic.

Thank you so much.

So many many great stories and ideas here..

But I remember one simple throw-away comment made to me early on :

" Oh. No. Really???
You can make money selling your hats?"

And what welled in my throat was a
HECK YEAH!

In short:
Sometimes a negative comment can spur the courage to jump the hell in a shaky little raft called " Enterprise."

I was bored and had a supportive husband. As a stay at home mom, I needed something to do and whacking things with a hammer was a good outlet ;-)
