Ah well if only you really could control the other half of every conversation you have. What a wonderful world indeed.

For 30 plus page we had a great, spirited discussion with lots of different points of view. Then a few people intent on preventing that from continuing, with posts about how they are going to report anyone who dares discuss this topic. And most likely the admins will side with you allow the derailment to happen and, not with the 30 pages of reasoned discussion.

'65 Mustang, huh? Well, I could fix a little of it, but my ex engineers, one now Civil, the other Mechanical, could! As far as engineers & OCD, perhaps you're thinking of Computer Engineers, who often don't make big things, as opposed to Civil & Mechanical, who build things. All those I've know in those areas are very handy at repairs of anything mechanical!

and @BlueDitty -- usually I like your posts, but the one trying to make something out of a facetious comment about "those" kind of Friday night people is stretching something to the breaking point.

And, while I'm on --
asking the question "does race matter?" is NOT calling anyone racist! We can have unknown biases without being racist -- they can be as invisible as the habits of stopping to look both ways before we cross the street -- a habit often maintained even in an area where the streets have no cars. It's unconscious, not overt or conscious.

And biases, or habits, if you will, CAN be changed by discussions, where we can take a look at aspects that we had not even realized or thought about before. And many in this thread acknowledge that. Alas, there are a few who seem to automatically get on the defensive. I'm white. And I listen, evaluate, consider. After all that, and being objective, but considering how I would feel on the other side, I can come to my own conclusions. If I were defensive, I'd have a hard time doing that.

When the people who came into this thread 30 pages in with the sole goal of derailing what was up until that point a really good conversation, get their way. I hope that what those who kept this discussion alive and civil will not feel that this discussion is impossible or that this derailment is inevitable. It's not inevitable and this discussion is not impossible, it was possible and we did do it for days. :)

That's an understatement.

Of course not, and the vast majority of the people in this thread realize that and understand that

I think this one has run its course, so I'm gonna wrap it up now. Night, all!
