I'm not sure what you mean by "mobile credit card machine".
I have a knucklebuster that I use with ProPay.
If that's what you mean, search around the different threads to get the discount code. Or just call them to sign up and tell them you have an Etsy shop and ask for the discount.
I've been very happy with them so far. No problems.
If I had a smart phone, I'd probably go the square route (ha ha - didn't mean to play on words, but there it is). Everyone else recommends it so highly.

I also have a Square and LOVE it! No complaints at all! I actually saved up and got a smart phone just so I could get a square - it has saved me SO many times and I know I make more sales because I could ditch the old knuckle buster!
Also I hear PayPal now offers something similar but I haven't researched it enough to know if the rates are the same.
Like others have said, the Square reader itself is free and it has a very low per-transaction rate compared to others, and no contract to sign. When you sign up you enter your bank account info and the money is deposited the next business day. It's crazy easy!

Todo: What is the procedure to apply for one of those mobile credit card machines...
If you mean the ones you plug into a smart phone or tablet (Square or Gopayment), you go to the website, fill out the application and wait for an approval email. You have to give name, address, all the basic stuff. You will have to give your Soc Sec number as they do a credit check. When approved, you attach a checking account to your swiper account so that they can deposit your money into it after sales.
