Did you know their is a real woman behind the folk song of that name? Her name was Emily West Morgan, a slave and she was known to be a thing of beauty and sophistication. Rumor has it Emily helped the Texas Army win the battle of San Jacinto by keeping General Santa Anna busy in the bedroom while the northern troops surprised him. Emily was spotted serving Santa Anna breakfast while wearing a lovely apron much like mine. No wonder he was in love! Upon hearing of her bravery, Colonel James Morgan granted Emily her freedom.
Who could resist a beautiful creation as this..the soft lemony yellow plaid of my vintage pillowcase apron. The overskirt is a remnant piece of designer house cotton which I have embellished with a piece of antique lace. Over that I layered a gossamer antique hankie which has been lovingly embroidered with small daisy's, pink and blue flowers. The hankie has a beautiful scalloped edge. For added texture and style I fashioned a shabby chic fabric rose with more antique lace and attached it to my french toile waistband. The extra long ties may be tied at back or wrapped around to the front as preferred. Under the over skirt you will find a hidden pocket for all your little treasures. What a wonderful Mother's Day gift my couture apron would make.

My apron measures 38 inches hem corner to hem corner
19 inches waistband to hem
25 inches waitband
extra long ties
many thanks to Heather of http:\/\/bebeandalice.etsy.com please treat yourself to a visit
