Hand block printing has been a traditional fabric production process within India since the 12th Century. All aspects of the process are delicate and carried out by skilled artists with deftness and precision, with skills that have been passed from generation to generation.
In a time when mass-production is the norm, small groups of artisans continue their ancient craft of block printing beautiful fabrics! At Monsoon Weave we feel that first world appreciation of this process is critical to its continuation and survival, and the culture of its artisans.
Utilising only NATURAL dyes made from tree barks, flowers and roots, this fabric is also tested for colour fastness, material strength and resistance to shrinkage and wrinkles.
Similar in weight to light cotton drill at 130g/sqm, this fabric is light enough for use as a dressmaking fabric, and also suitable for quilting and as an upholstery fabric.
This piece of fabric measures 1 metre x 114 cm wide. Longer lengths & fat quarters also available on request.
