Whilst feeding my addiction to kimono fabric I was amazed to discover that Japan was heavily influenced by western modernist design in the 1950's and 60's. I have found fabrics heavily inspired by Eames and Day which give any piece of 'Bark Cloth' a run for its money. As with European vintage print fabric, these are highly collectable. But of course THESE are hand painted, 100% silk and entirely unique.
This stunning cushion is made from genuine vintage kimono fabric from the 1950's. It depicts trees and leaves in a modernist african style. With a bright vermillion, cherry red, black and aqua print on a cream background, handpainted with gold details. The reverse of the cushion is vintage kimono black silk lining.
There are two cushions available if you are looking for a pair!
I hope you can display and enjoy this cushion as if a beautiful work of art or sculpture. Much of the cloth I use is hand embroidered or hand -painted and I think this is a wonderful way of preserving such an ancient and revered craft.
