Thousands upon thousands of spiraling electric blue seashells swirl together in this woodcut of a sailor valentine in the shape of a galaxy. The innumerable spirals of the shells suggest the infinite spirals that exist in the void of outer space--small groupings of spirals massing into larger groupings of spirals. The mesmerizing two-toned blue loops of the galaxy's cloudy whips lead to a central burst/twist of long, thin shells. This image is printed from two hand-drawn, hand-carved woodblocks onto pale pink paper.
This is NOT a digitally reproduced print. After drawing our original designs on birch plywood, we hand-carve the blocks. We print the finished woodblocks through a press onto paper in our living room printshop.
"Galaxy Map" is a limited edition of 100 prints. Each print in the edition is signed, titled and numbered. Prints are packaged in clear, resealable sleeves with coroplast backing. Ready for gifting, propping up on a shelf, or safely transporting until framed!
