A textile ornament of a real-size mother hare and her baby to display fondly in your home.
Mother Hare Adventure
One afternoon when Adventure was just a small baby, she was out playing in the meadow by herself when she came across her very first picninc blanket.
One minute she had been chasing a butterfly and the next she found herself surrounded by colourful objects on an enormous flat woollen butterfly spread out over all the grasses and wildflowers.
It was just so interesting, this huge soft colourful blanket with lots of interesting objects all over it.
She had never seen any of these strange shapes and smells and tastes before, as she poked and prodded, nibbled and licked, but one thing in particular grabbed her attention and she darted over to have a sniff and a bite.
It was a large flat shape, a little bigger than her actually, for leverets are very tiny and it was a tad bit soft on the top but when she ran over it she could feel the firmness inside.
So she tore away a piece of the outer brown paper and as she bit into the shiny silver paper she got a zap.
Ow! she cried, that hurt! but the damage was already done, she had bitten thru the foil and got some of the chocolate on her teeth, and mmmm how delicious it tasted she thought as she licked her lips.
Adventure then carefully prized her nose into the tiny gap between the shiny foil to get some more of that sweet tasting stuff, and then when the foil easily tore away she got so excited and before she knew it, half the bar had been devoured.
She was feeling a little sickly, but after a rest she managed to gobble down some more, when all that remained was only a few squares, so she rolled the papers around them and carried them off to have for her bedtime snack, being very careful not to let any of that foil touch her teeth.
She decided that she would give one square to mama, just to try, and hoping in the back of her mind that mama would not be too keen on it at all, and she would just finish them all off herself.
And she was lucky, because indeed mama did find it too sickly and gave the remainder of her square back to happy little Adventure.
Well, that happened to be rather a long time ago when Adventure was a just youngster but to this day her taste for chocolate has never waned and she has devoured many, many assorted chocolate treats.
And she has a great sense of smell too and can detect a bar downwind at least a meadows length away!
Quite often, as she carries off her bounty, just as the humans return, she can hear them start to argue as they blame each other for forgetting the chocolate.
And always she has a little smile as she imagines her pleasure of tucking in! She has been very lucky because not a single hare has taken a liking to this strange brown stuff.
Adventure is looking forward to dozing comfortably on your armchair by the French windows. Mind and leave them open a little thanks as she will be going out every day for her walks in the meadows.
Oh, alright, no point in fibbing to you, she will going out to canvas the area and see how many picnics are in progress and hopefully come home with a stash of delicious bars!
Now, hang on a sec, she’s just wondering out loud here, since you are human there could be a very high possibility that you have a few bars hidden away here at home?
Infact she saw the look you gave her as she settled down amongst her cushions and sniffed a familiar scent in the air. Yes, you do have chocolate here!
And you were thinking of maybe not sharing with such a beautiful and adorable hare! tut, tut!
Well, Adventure has news for you, if you share your bars she will let you know her opinion of them because she has had some very, very tasty chocolate and that could mean that you go out and buy the tastiest ones from now on.
What do you mean you ate them all last night? She’s not going to fall for that old chocolate covered chestnut!
Baby Hare Slipper
Slipper was very young when her mama took her along to her very first picnic blanket.
Infact she had just left the nest, a tiny baby, barely able to scurry across the meadow without getting breathless and now here she was, in a far off field with mama, investigating a picnic!
She was out of breath for sure and panting because the journey had been far but mama had promised her a real tasty treat so that had encouraged her to keep up.
And now that they were here, on this huge colourful blanket strewn across the wildflowers and grasses, mama was going from one thing to the next, poking her nose into things, and pushing others over with her paw.
Slipper copied mama and before mama could keep an eye on her, she had caviar on one paw, salted butter along an ear, tuna spread all over her tail and on the end of her nose was a huge glace cherry! My, my!
And as mama was about to exclaim to her youngster, Slipper had stretched her tiny tongue up and pulled down the cherry to her mouth and devoured it! Mmmm, so delicious mama! she squeeled.
Then she bounced over to the dish with the dried fruits and poked about for another cherry.
Meanwhile, mama had found the chocolate. There were a couple of different bars, so she bundled them into her bag and scooped up some more cherries and other assorted dried fruits for Slipper and said that they must be going, because sometimes the humans come back early from their frolicking in the tall grasses, or skinny-dipping in the river, or make it thru the nettle patch faster than anticipated.
So they loped off with their bounty, very happy and with big smiles.
Ofcourse tiny Slipper was running as fast as she could to keep up with mamas long, long legs, but the excitement of the cherries had made her heart beat fast and she couldn’t really feel her feet racing along.
Later that night, just after bedtime story time, mama let her have another cherry with her cocoa.
And yummy yum, Slipper went to sleep with a huge smile on her face.
Slipper is looking forward to dozing cosily beside mama, on your armchair by the French windows.
Mama has told her that they will be going out every day to explore the meadows, but that’s really mama hare talk for scouting for picnics. Slipper knows that!
You will be welcome to come along too, Slipper would love your company as well.
Mama has told her that you don’t like chocolate nor cherries so they will both be very lucky as you tuck into the caviar and cheese’n’pickle platters, yeuch! You do like that kinda stuff don’t you?
Mama said that you are an extra nice human because on the days when they don’t come across any picnics, like the rainy days and the thundery days, well, mama said that you have a small collection of cherries and chocolates in your cupboard just for them, as a treat?
That’s true isn’t it? Infact can you show her now? Just one peek, and em, just one cherry please? Pretty please??
Adventure and Slipper have been made with great care and have safety eyes. Machine and hand sewn by me with many ‘unique’ (imperfect, handmade) bits, especially the scrappy sewing and tufts on Slippers forhead, but she doesn't mind that too much, after all she is blessed with a lovely brain.
However, they are not recommended for very young children and are not toys.
Both made from material scraps, and with a polyfill stuffing, along with a full stomach of chocolate and cherries (only joking!).
Mama stands approx 27cm high and 38cm wide (approx 11” x 15”) and Slipper tinier.
Adventure and Slipper are looking forward to their journey to their forever home.
Adventure also wants you to know that baby hares are called leverets and mothers are does.
