This pattern is a delight! So beautifully printed as a glossy booklet with clear colour photos - it guides you step-by-step through creating your very own 100 day quilt. The instructions on needleturn applique are excellent, although you can use your preferred method of applique. I especially loved the reading list, recommended music track and philosophy behind making this quilt. It's like therapy by slow stitching. Don't buy a book on mindfulness - buy this pattern instead!

Lucy Engels: Modern Quilter / Visual Artist

Lucy Engels is based in Edinburgh. Working from her studio in a converted Victorian school with high ceilings and fantastic light in the centre of the city.

Lucy has a background in Fine Art and studied at Grays School of Art leaving with a BA (hons) Printmaking in 2004. Going on the win the RSA Printmaking award in her final year. She chose to specialise in printmaking due to the graphic layering and immediate nature of printmaking. Years later discovering that quilting could have a similar layering aesthetic and immediacy which she enjoys.

Her work is full of colour. Combining bold and contrasting palettes with an experimental edge. Her work is not shy and she loves to explore the fun in making. After spending ten years the Social Work profession she has a changed perspective on life. "What I get to do now is an absolute joy. I have nothing to complain about and want to spread the joy of taking life a bit less seriously"

Lucy creates functional quilts, wall quilts and quilt patterns. She also designs and screen prints limited edition fabric collections. And will, at some point, create prints on paper again.

Over the past few years Lucy has collaborated and partnered with industry leaders such as JanomeUK, Aurifil Thread, FIGO Fabrics, Oakshott Fabrics, Purl Soho, and RJR Fabrics. She teaches regularly at My Bear Paw and from her studio in Edinburgh. Has exhibited her quilts internationally at QuiltCon 2018/20 and taken part in the Craft Scotland Summer Show in 2018/19.

Care instructions

My quilts and home ware is made to be conveniently washable on a cool gentle cycle. I would recommend using a colour catcher on first wash just in case. However I use the best quality 100% cotton materials and would expect colour fastness. My quilts soften over time giving that much loved comforting texture.
