Firenze, Above the Crowd

Description

This is a photo etching made from a photograph I took in Florence (Firenze), Italy. A photo etching is made from an etching plate coated with a light sensitive polymer which has been exposed to ultraviolet light. The resulting plate is then inked and wiped in the same way as a traditionally etched plate. The image area is 5" x 7". It was printed on 8 1/2" x 10 7/8" archival paper on my vintage etching press. I've included a photo showing the exciting moment when the paper is peeled up off the plate and I get to see if the image was a success or not.

I took the photograph for this etching on a very busy, crowded street in Florence and I happened to look up to visually escape the mob around me and saw this beautiful sculpture on the front of a building. It might be John the Baptist with Christ but I'm only guessing. What an antidote to the harried, secular world we exist in!
