Autumn Tree--Hand Embroidered Pendant

You know that day in the fall when you first feel the cold steel of winter biting through the morning breeze? That's my favorite day of the year. When that day happens, the trees look like this. I love the way the leaves on the ground look like confetti--like the trees are throwing a going away party for themselves.

This pendant is hand embroidered of cotton floss on yellow silk (visible behind the leaves of the tree). I've used satin, seed, chain, fly, and long-and-short stitches on this pendant. Tapering from about 1" wide on the top to about 3/4" wide on the bottom, it's 2 1/2" long, hanging from a sterling spacer bar on a black 18" satin cord with a sterling clasp. Perfect with a scoop-neck or v-neck shirt, or in winter with a solid turtleneck. (Check the summer tree pendant for a shot of where it falls on a live human being.) Finished with a seed bead border in a mix of light autumnal colors, it's backed in cotton muslin with two pieces of sized felt to give it dimension and rigidity. Signed and dated by its devoted maker--me.
