Mini Art Quilt

This is a 7 1/2" x 7 1/2" mini quilt made with machine and hand stitching.

I created it from my own original drawings.

I've used fabric pieces to create the patchwork of the quilt and bound the edges with dark brown binding that I made myself. The quilt backing is made from a charming woodland scene patterned Japanese fabric. There is a layer of cotton batting between the front and back.

In the center is a fussy cut little squirrel on soft flannel. Around the border of the quilt I have hand embroidered a happy little squirrel and his priced acorn. A hand embroidered acorn also decorates each corner of the quilt. The hand stitching around the border goes through all the layers of the quilt to the back.

I was inspired to make this quilt when I was out walking one day and picked up a tiny acorn and brought it home in my pocket.
