Description

Ohh la la!

This listing is for our "Simply Scrumptious Shetland" roving in the natural color of "Shetland Musket." Pronounced "moosket"--it means "mouse-colored" and is a gorgeous subtly-shaded; very pale; light taupe fleece with a hint of grey in the undertones. This listing is a four (4) ounce "bouquet" in which we've blended the natural musket fleece from our fine-wooled Shetland sheep, the lovely natural cinnamon, fawn and white locks from "locally grown and harvested" alpacas, and the wonderful fawn, tortoise shell, opal and white angora fiber from our French Angora rabbits. This roving is "ohh" so wonderful--it will almost draft itself.

A luxury blend of 70% Shetland, 20% alpaca and 10% angora this is definitely a fiber to "dye" for (or over!) Commercially carded into roving this fiber can be easily spun to any weight yarn. All the softness, warmth and elasticity the fine Shetland wool contributes combined with the additional luxuriousness of the alpaca, and the light and lovely halo from the angora make for a premium fiber that easily transforms into something very special. A laceweight shawl, a stunning sweater, a simple scarf--all become a work-of-art when this lovely fiber is used in their design!

And while this roving is gorgeous left in its natural color-it reminds me of the swirling shades of the palest sandstone-you might consider dying it with an overwash of color that will highlight that very subtle shading and slight heathering that occurs when fiber is "aue naturel." Be bold and dye it something completely outrageous--or simply ply it with a different shade for an explosion of color. Do both and see what you design!

Please note that this roving contains some VM (vegetable material)--thanks mostly to the camelid fiber it contains. The Shetland wool and the angora were quite pristine; our sheep are coated and the rabbits lounge about lazily inside their abode, but those alpacas love their dust baths! I do spin this fiber quite often myself and always find it quite heavenly--one of the "perks" of being the shepherd!

Incidentally--in case you are not a "spinner" yourself, but would like to share in this luxury fiber, make sure and check out the listings for our handspun and millspun yarns!

As a side note: Shetland sheep come in eleven natural (main) colors--we currently have nine (of the colors) in our flock! We have carded this same luxury blend in those nine colors to allow every fiber-holic an opportunity to spin a little luxury in the shade(s) of their choice! All are (or soon will be) listed for sale. Please check out our other listings to find all of our "bouquets" and feel free to mix and match them to take advantage of combined shipping discounts!
