defenestrated duchesses- Scarlett - mixed media on board
Description
Hmph. I expected it. I knew it was coming. The Duke was bound to find my hidden cache of pigeon's blood rubies, pliantly boyish body servants, and love letters from sultans. And that's why i've got my biggest umbrella and had the maid sew mylar into my skirts. Just wait until he finds what I left in his snuffbox...Title: Scarlett's Last Thought
Series: Defenestrated Duchesses
Size: 3.25" x 12" x 1.5" (8.5 x 30.5 x 3.5cm)
Medium: mixed media on board, including acrylic paint, newspaper, Amy Butler Nigella paper, watercolor pencil, gesso
This is 1 in a series of 6 morbid little paintings of duchesses who have been defenestrated, or thrown out of windows. None of them seem very surprised, and most of them deserved it. They are painted on discarded/upcycled 2x4 wood boards with a variety of materials and sealed with satin varnish. As the side photos show, the boards are rustic, with some texture, but the sides are painted to match the overall painting. I have always loved Edward Gorey, so these paintings are my somber nod to his humorous Victorian morbidity.
Thanks for looking, and don't stand in front of windows!
