Simply Scrumptious Shetland is a 200 yard skein of Shetland, Alpaca and Angora millspun 2 ply yarn in Moorit lot 04172007
Description
MY OH MY!!!This listing is for our "Simply Scrumptious Shetland" millspun 2 ply yarn in the natural color of "moorit." We've combined the natural moorit (brown) fleece from our fine-wooled Shetland sheep, the lovely natural cinnamon locks from "locally grown and harvested" alpacas, and the wonderful tortoise shell and fawn angora fiber from our French Angora rabbits into this luxury blend of 70% Shetland wool, 20% alpaca and 10% angora that is definitely a yarn to "dye" for (or over!)
With several pounds of each "flavor" in the "wool bag," I elected to have these fiber blends commercially spun into a 2 ply "Sport" weight yarn that rates a "2" or "fine" on a Yarn Classification Chart. With a WPI of 15-18 and approximately 1350-1650 yards per pound, this yarn can become a hat, a scarf, a set of mittens or socks, a lace shawl or a sweater!
I personally have indulged myself by knitting a hat, a lace shawl, a sweater and socks from our "Simply Scrumptious Shetland" blends, as well as having woven several scarves! Three more pairs of knitted socks are spoken for by the "hunter-hiker-farmers" in my circle of friends and family. As you can tell--I love this yarn--no matter which "flavor!!!"
Please note that the photo of the yarn in the "skein" is the closest to the natural color--the flash of the camera "lightened" the pic showing just the end of the skein. Feel free to check out the Simply Scrumptious Shetland roving in this color to get a better idea of the natural color of this roving.
The richness of colors, the natural heathering, and the warmth of this yarn make it both a pleasure to look at and a pleasure to wear! And while this yarn is gorgeous left in its natural color--it makes me think of milk chocolate--the unexpected blip of fawn/white fibers make it a yarn to "dye" for--or over! An overwash of color--to highlight that very subtle shading and slight heathering that occurs when fiber is "aue naturel." Handpainting--to capture the contrast of the light and dark fibers! Tap into your "wild side" and dye it something completely outrageous! Let your imagination run free!
Additionally--I recommend a gauge (knitting) of 5.75-6.5 stitches per inch on US needle size 3-5 or UK needle size 3.25-3.75 and/or a crochet hook size D,E. However this is only a suggestion--no hard and fast rules apply!
A little side note! This yarn WAS millspun (not handspun) and was shipped on cones. I leave my millspun on the cones until "it tells me what it wants to be" so that if it says "SOCKS" I can run it through my antique sock knitting machine with ease. Before listing this yarn however, I "washed, wuzzed and dripped it dry" so that it would bloom--beautifully!!!
This yarn also felts beautifully so if you don't want it to--treat it like you would the critters it came from. Don't wash it (or a completed masterpiece) in a washing machine, don't use harsh detergents or soaps, don't run it through the dryer, and don't agitate it!
