Where I grew up, the primroses were pink with white hearts, and white with pink hearts. When they covered the riverbank, I thought they looked like summer brides. They were the most beautiful things in the world.

I made this necklace using over one hundred 6-7mm freshwater petal pearls in pure silvery white. I hand wrapped three strands of the pearls on gleaming sterling silver wire, and then accented them with tiny faceted rondelles of fine pink tourmaline and spinel.

The necklace is 18 inches long, and finished with a heavy sterling slider clasp.

Unlike conventional pearls, keishi (or petal) pearls are not formed around a nucleus. They are pure nacre, which gives them an iridescence and depth of lustre unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Also, they look like flower petals. My inner romantic swoons.
