Ivy Superwash Sock Yarn

This skein has an interesting history. It's not on any of my usual base yarns, but on Knit Picks Bare Superwash Merino/Nylon. I bought a few skeins of this yarn to test when I was just starting this business last year. I quickly found wholesale sources of more luscious base yarns, so did not offer any of the Knit Picks base yarn for sale. Last fall, I bought a book on natural dyeing and used the last skein of the KP in a dyebath made of chopped ivy leaves, which was not very successful. (See my blog post here: http://fishwrapper.wordpress.com/2007/10/14/liddle-lamzey-divey/ ) A couple of weeks ago, I had some green dye left in a dyebath, and threw in the ivy-dyed skein just to see what would happen. So:

Soft shades of green and yellow-green drift across this skein of yarn, first dyed pale yellow in an ivy dyebath, then green in a leftover Jacquard dyebath. Nothing goes to waste! Even the label is made from a recycled manila envelope. There is plenty here to make an adult pair of socks.


Fiber: 75% Superwash Merino wool, 25% nylon
Yarn type: Fingering weight, 4-ply
Weight: 100 grams, 462 yards
Needle size: 1-3
Gauge: 7-8 stitches per inch
Care: Machine washable, dry gentle

This yarn will be reskeined to take care of any pesky tangles that may have developed during the dyeing process. Please let me know if you'd prefer it in skein form (so elegant for gifts, or looking spiffy in your stash) or made into a center-pull ball AKA yarncake (ready to knit with the moment it arrives).
